Richard Gutierrez: Ang Sugo
Article posted July 06, 2005
“It has always been my dream to have long hair. I get to do that in Sugo,” Richard Gutierrez says with a charming grin.
Sugo is the latest offering of GMA. Di sya teleserye at di sya telefantasya ha! It’s an epic fantasy adventure that stars teen heartthrob Richard who takes on two challenging roles
After the success of the hit telefantasya Mulawin, viewers have been speculating whether Richard will come back to primetime television once again. The demands have been answered and this gorgeous hunk gets even buffer and tougher for his portrayal of Miguel and Amante.
Miguel is the quintessential nice guy, who follows his heart and Amante is the reason-driven, soldier type. When asked which character he relates to, Richard ponders and eventually talks about how we all possess two sides to our personality. It is just a matter of balancing both sides of the force, so to speak.
It was definitely an honor for this young actor to work with the best of the Asian Kung Fu artists, trainers and choreographers. “These are people who have already worked with Jackie Chan and Jet Li. It was a humbling experience,” Richard adds. He started from the basics a few weeks before the first shoot and from there, he had to build his own style for the character that he is about to step into.
Richard has to face the pressures of having done a successful show and follow it up with an even better one. But, his supporters and his family know without a doubt that he can handle this feat with another smile and with effortless panache.
Richard off-cam
Noong makasama nga namin si Richard sa set ng Sugo, ang kulit niya. He is obviously able to still keep his humor even after eight to 12 hours of non-stop shooting. As tired as he was, he can still easily switch from the real Richard to the brooding Amante in a matter of minutes, right after the director says, “Action!” By the way, all the behind the scenes images you see in this article are taken by our hero himself. Kinukuha niya ang camera namin and he insists on taking the photos himself!
In between sets, he chills by either sitting down and reading his Buddhism book that he keeps by his side at all times, or by goofing around with the other members of the cast and crew.
On a more serious note, Richard says he wants to continue his education and plans to study filming and philosophy. “Preferably, siguro outside the country, where I can have a fresh start and enjoy my anonymity,” he wistfully states.
Kaya habang wala pa si Richard sa ibang bansa to pursue his other dreams, watch and catch him as the Sugo.

So Don't Forget to Watch GMA's Latest Action-Drama Series... Catch Richard Gutierrez in "Sugo".
