Charles Nelson Reilly passed away on Friday of complications from pneumonia. He had been in ill health when we filmed THE LIFE OF REILLY in late 2004, but was a relentless trouper. His health really began to decline beginning with trips in and out of the hospital over Christmas of 2005, and finally being confined to a bed for over a year now. A few weeks ago Charles got up from his bed and, with some help, got around a bit with a walker. This was a good sign, and we were hoping that it was the beginning of a recovery. But he started slipping again, and was recently hospitalized for one last time.

We began this myspace page last year as a way to connect CNR with the cyberworld -- especially his younger fans, who he really got a kick out of hearing from. At first, we would go to his house and read the posts and messages to him. He really enjoyed the communications about his theater career, and was very proud when he heard from former students or people whom he inspired over the years. And he received a lot of these. He would dictate his response to us from his bed and we would dutifully post his replies on Myspace.

As he got more ill he became unable (and sometimes just too tired) to answer the posts and messages. We apologize to the many many fans who have asked CNR questions or requested autographs and the like. Trust that the love, respect and admiration was felt by Charles, even if he was unable to respond to all the inquiries.

For those of you who are asking to see the film, or for copies of the DVD for the film, we are releasing "Life of Reilly" in the fall. We had been waiting, hoping that Charles would recover so he could be part of the process of the release. This isn't going to happen, now. So we will put the film out later this year.

The last time I saw Charles we just sat in his bedroom and watched some TV (someone had sent him a DVD compilation of him and Marty Feldman doing skits on the Dean Martin Golddigger show... fucking hilarious!!!) and talked about the movie ... he had all kinds of ideas on how we should get the film out there. I read him some reviews of the film (he always loved that) and left. I am going to miss him. All of us who worked on "The Life of Reilly" had a special experience, as did everyone who came across Charles in life. He was brilliant, he was inspirational, he was funny as hell. If I have ever met a genius, it was Charles Nelson Reilly.

We give our deepest condolensces to Patrick. (who, by the way, is a Saint).

For those of you who want to pay your last respects, I suggest renting a copy of the "Jose Chung's Doomsday Defense" episode of the X-Files spinoff show, "Millenium" and fixing yourself a Manhattan (Charles preferred Jim Beam, with no cherry). You won't regret it.

"Love and kisses, sweetheart!"

I had met him a few years ago when I went to see his one man show "Save It For the Stage" in Beverly Hills and me and my friend went backstage to meet with him, and I found him a charming man. Funny and cynical in the best way! He said I reminded him of John Ritter (I get that a lot) and said I should do whatever I should do to be happy; advice I take with me to this day. He autographed my program which I still have to this day. I met him again a few months later at a taping of Hollywood Squares and he remembered me and we shared a few laughs backstage again. I am a HUGE fan of Match Game and watch it every day in my office of GSN. He will be missed.

I'm in deep depression....Totally loved the man. Thank goodness I was able to see his show in San Francisco a few years ago.

Nothing can replace all of the laughs CNR gave me when I was a sick child home from school in the early 70's.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Patrick.

I joined MySpace just so I could view Charles' page, and write to him. To those of you who maintained this site and delivered the notes and letters (of which mine was one), thank you so much. I still have the prop paper bag (the Hal Holbrook one, for those of you who saw the show) that Charles gave me one night at his show in 2001. I will always treasure it as it serves as my reminder to do what I love. I knew he had been failing and was dreading this day, but am so thankful that we have so many video remembrances of him. I have been glued to the internet, reading all of the tributes and condolences. I feel that I have lost a dear uncle or grandfather, and I know many, many others feel that way, too.

Aw.. Nicely written. I am honored to have been a friend (even if it was only online) of the legendary Charles Nelson Reilly. It feels historical being on such a great man's page. And to know he may have gotten a comment from me... it feels amazing. I was really hoping to write him someday, but it is too late... but I will take this profile and remember it forever. I am so glad he had a way to communicate with his fans like this. I'm, myself, fourteen, and I totally appreciate everything Mr. Reilly has done. He brings such a smile to my face... Especially on Match Game with his bickering with Brett! Classic... Just classic... I love him so very much, and he will always be in my heart to stay. I wish there was someway to just say something to his family... I don't know... Just a few words of love, comfort, and appreciation.

After seeing Life of Reilly recently, I had such a different respect for Mr Reilly. I was always a fan - but felt much more deeply about the man after seeing the film. I feel a heartfelt loss at his passing, as opposed to the normal "awww, that so sad" reaction one has when a beloved celebrity dies. I hope he knew how much his story affected people. My sincerest condolences to Mr Hughs.

"Jose Chung's Doomsday Defense" is one of the best episodes of Millenium! Good recommendation for a lovely way to remember CNR.

Thank you for putting together this page foe Charles.

He was one of my favorite comedians, and let's face it...he was just funny as hell!
I'm old enough to remember his appearances on the' Dean Martin show', the episodes of' the Ghost and Mrs. Muir', and of course, his time on' Match Game'. There were also Saturday mornings with him in 'Lidsville', a show I'm sure many have forgotten. But it way that maniacal laugh of his that rings in my ears. He will always remain in my heart, and I thank him for all of the memories and laughter that he gave me. Rest in Peace dear friend...and thank you!

Dear BAP, Patrick, and CNR's many, many friends:

I have enjoyed, and will continue to enjoy, watching CNR. One thing about having a showbusiness career, especially one as prolific as his, is that it is basically forever, not just the memories, but whatever was committed to permanent media. This, I hope, is a comforting thought for all of us. I was delighted to be included in the group, even though as a MySpace friend, for I have been a fan of his since his GHOST & MRS. MUIR days when he played Claymore Gregg. My parents, God rest their souls, and I always got a kick out of CNR's visits to THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JOHNNY CARSON, since we never knew what he was going to do, and I don't think he knew, either...LOL! We could always count on him being his naturally funny self, whatever he did...then he could take a basically serious actress like Julie Harris (also from my old neck of the woods, Michigan), direct her with sensitivity in various Broadway shows, and stand everyone on their collective ears.

You'll be missed, Charles. God bless you, rest you, and keep you. 23rd Psalm.

--Sincerely, KEVIN

In the 'copycat' world of show business...Charles was an exotic original. I loved him so much...when people enter my living room the first thing they see is an autographed photo and a note that he wrote to me back in 1992. He was so quick witted, so brilliant that he never ever needed to sink to a low-level comedy of vulgar or insults. This man was an American treasure. Many times, a young person would come into my home and see that autographed photo and note and say 'who is that?' - I would 'turn them on to him' and they would become a new fan....his appeal spanned decades of changing entertainment and bridged generation gaps. But describing Charles was always an exercise in futility, he had to be seen to be believed. A charm, a class, a dignity, a comedic genius, a warm soul, a pioneer, a 'liberator' before it had a name, a brave exhuberance of self expression at a time when doing so was done at great risk to his career...but today, he is happily beyond the reach of prosaic analysis... but this gift he gave us...how do we thank him? How do you thank someone for a million laughs? Perhaps the best way, is to continue to share his work with people, share his story and support his upcoming movie and keep the laughter going....Charles would want that and we owe him...I'll miss you Charles, you were a dear sweet soul, a kind and gentle spirit that made the world a happier place, I love you so much...I love you so much. Your Friend, Scott in Pittsburgh, PA

Good bye, Charles!
From the Saturday morning shows I grew up watching you on.
To the afternoon Match Game PM's I had to get home to watch.
To the joy of seeing you pop up unexpectedly on a TV show (a WKRP in Cinncinatti comes to mind).
To the thrill of seeing you on X-files (I was watching to see our future Gov, Jesse Ventura, when I jumped out of my seat yelling IT'S HIM! IT'S HIM!! My wife, thinking I was yelling about Jesse couldn't figure out why I was so excited: CNR was on!!!)...
To a vague, yet fond, memory I have of being entertained in 2nd grade class by CNR (It was the early 1970's. Did it really happen? Did he go to schools and perform? I wish I had the chalk board he wrote his name on!).
