op.disc proudly presents "DARTRIIX", the first full album from DARTRIIX (Fumiya Tanaka and RADIQ), Co-founders of op.disc. This stunning album brings the beautiful contrast of physicality and mechanical of music. After releasing the trilogy of EPs, DARTRIIX is quickly back again with their first full album. On the trilogy, they have succeeded to show their versatility with the multi-layered, complex, yet groovy tracks, but on this album, they succeeded to add even more ideas and musical elements into their groovy world.
The tracks on album are basically produced by swapping sound files as two are based in two distant cities. Tokyo-based Fumiya Tanaka is keeping himself busy by DJing and producing tracks, and Paris-based RADIQ is also keeping himself busy with touring in Europe as RADIQ and composing scores for orchestras, but as both working in different environments, they could get many different ideas and views to exchange and combine. This is the one of the keys of DARTRIIX.
All tracks are basically floor-oriented minimal tracks, but the quality is far over from the standard. Each track should be regarded as a beautiful and elaborate "sound sculpture". "Sound sculpture" may sound "fragile", but from "Kinetic Theory" to "Dipole", every single sound has got a strong character and is placed very wisely to pull out the big, raw, and tough groove. It is really thrilling to listen to jazzy/psychedelic vivid phrases driving around the complex and detailed sequences while sharp/tight snares, edgy/rough hi-hats, and smoky/fat basslines are beating stripped down minimal rhythm.
Through the album, there is the tension and the sexiness with deep minimal atmospheres and this is the one only DARTRIIX can create. This album,"DARTRIIX", could push forward the scene again and broaden the possibilities of music as it should be rewarded as the milestone of the scene.

これまでにop.discから3枚の12インチEPシリーズをリリースしてきた田中フミヤ--半野喜弘によるユニット・DARTRIIX。ダンスフロアーに根ざした4/4のミニマルトラックという枠組みに落とし込みながらも、互いのアイデアや視点を持ち寄り交換する事により非常に多面的で複層性を持ったグルーヴを展開してきた彼らだが、このファースト・アルバムではその視点をさらに拡大し、12インチシリーズ以上に多様な音楽要素とアイデアをそのグルーヴの中に盛り込んでいる。
田中フミヤは東京をその活動の拠点とし依然精力的なDJワークとそれを反映したMIX CD/DVDのリリースやトラック制作を展開する一方、半野喜弘はパリに拠点を置きつつヨーロッパ各地におけるRADIQ名義としてのライブやスイスでのアーティスト・イン・レジデンスとしてオーケストラ用のスコア制作を行なうという、それぞれ多忙な日常をおくりながら、今回のアルバムに収録するトラックにあたっては東京とパリ、それぞれのスタジオの間でサウンドファイルを交換し、互いのアイデアに肉付けや引き算を繰り返しながら制作された。
前述の通りこのアルバムに収められているのはダンスフロアーへ向けてストレートにフォーカスされたミニマルトラック群だが、驚くべきはその精緻きわまりない音響彫刻とそれぞれのサウンドの強度が織りなす有機的で生々しいまでのグルーヴ。タイトに絞り込まれたドラム--粗く毛羽立ったハイハット--煙たく分厚いベースラインがミニマルに淡々と刻み付けられる中、ジャジーで時にサイケデリックですらある複雑なテクスチャーや剥き出しのフリークエンシーがストリップダウンされたリズムの隙間をしなやかに縫っていく様は実にスリリング。1つのトラックを構成するあらゆるサウンドは固有の強度を主張しながらも、それらは互いに呼応し連鎖し合い濃密な音の連続性----グルーヴ--を生み出すべく入念にアレンジされており、それはアルバム冒頭の 'Kinetic Theory' から 'Dipole' に至るまで細部にわたり徹底し尽くされている。アルバム全体を通して流れるモノトーンでセクシー、同時にある種ハードボイルドな緊張感を伴う感触はDARTRIIXでしか成し得ないものと言ってもいいはずだし、この作品はミニマル・ミュージックの可能性を力強く押し拡げるマイルストーンとなるべき1枚だ。
