Hi Folks,
Just flew back from a few shows out in the netherworlds...the last one was the home county fest in London...reminded me yet again just how much talent and depth there is out there in this big world. I love my job.
Still slaving away on the new album here...just about done (and loving it!). Laid down the bed tracks out in Toronto at Canterbury with Jeremy Darby and my producer Danny Greenspoon and now I'm doing vocals and overdubs here in Vancouver at my own Dancing Monk Productions Studio here. Good times indeed. Heading back out to Toronto to finish up in early September and then looking at a February 2007 release date. We got some serious magic on the bed tracks...with folks like Kevin Breit (Norah Jones), Marc Rogers (Philosopher Kings), and Al Cross (Big Sugar) in the mix you can't go wrong.
In other news...Randy Bachman just released a DVD of our shows out in Toronto called "JAZZTHING: LIVE IN TORONTO" including a CBC documentary of our studio sessions for his album. Any good to mediocre record store should have a copy if you want to check it out...it's worth it...or go to Randy's website to order it...www.randybachman.com...the amazing thing about Randy is that he's still experimenting and taking risks even after all of his success and experience. Very admirable.
I just got a story published in Rhubarb Magazine...(which pleases me to an almost embarrassing degree)...and if you want to read it you can get the magazine at any bookstore that carries indie mags...
If you want to read the article I wrote for NUVO magazine called "Canuck Bard" just go to the BIO page and scroll down.
The song I wrote with Dany Bedar called "Deja Vu" is coming out in Quebec as a single and we'll be shooting a video for it pretty soon. It's the first English/French duet I've ever written so it's been pretty exciting seeing it fly so quickly. Been writing for another Quebec act named Jonas for the last while with Annette Ducharme so things seem to be heating up in the Quebec department. Jazz singer "Dee Keye" Ibomeka just recorded a tune I wrote with Jacksoul called "I'll be Anybody" for his new album...should be out anyday now with a full court press and all the bells and whistles. It's a pretty whacky tune so I'd be interested to know what you guys think.
Anyway, gotta get back to recording here...I hope everyone's having a good summer out there.
Cheers,
jk
