The ABC has referenced the sources of the series 'The Howard Years', including the full letter Howard sent to Habibie in 1998.
The letter reads as my previous blog predicted.
In fact the lies were more substantial than I predicted.
In the letter John Howard urges President Habibie to try to quickly resolve the issue to avoid further international criticism 'along the lines of the Matignon Accords in New Caledonia.'
John Howard suggest the 'implementation of an autonomy package with a built-in review mechanism {allowing} time to convince the East Timorese of the benefits of autonomy within the Indonesian Republic.'

The ABC should be ashamed for presenting these lies as fact to millions of Australian viewers. Lies which indirectly resulted in the deaths of thousands of East Timorese men, women and children.
