My producer Mark, the great Norwegian engineer Audun Strype, and Peter Brötzmann (as art director!), are busy finishing up "Volda," the new album by Brötzmann/Yagi/Nilssen-Love.
This 55-minute performance was recorded by Audun at a club called Rokken in Volda, Norway on April 12 of last year. The gig was the last in a 10-city tour sponsored by Rikskonserter, and according to Mark and Audun, the best performance of the entire tour. I'm not going to disagree with them. There are many fine moments, but in particular, the final 18-or-so minutes, which turns into a kind of wild jungle groove, is truly wild and exciting.
Mark will be releasing "Volda" on his Idiolect label on, ahem, January 23, 2010 (we are very formal here regarding these matters), but he is hoping some copies will be ready for "Brötzfest 2009" to be held at SuperDeluxe on December 9.
Yes, Peter is about to blow up a storm in Japan again next month. More on that later...
Love,
Michiyo
