Don't hate me if you are an Obama loving Democrat. I have some really good friends who are mislead Liberals. (Just kidding...kind of.) I've never wanted to speak out much when it comes to politics. I like to leave that to the Hollywood blow-hards. But when it comes to the media, you will only get one point of view for the most part. The major TV networks and newspapers have basically gone on an Elect Obama love-fest for the past year or 2 here in the States, while entertainment shows like Saturday Night Live do their best to make comic book clowns out of the Republican candidates.
Now don't get me wrong. I'm not crazy about John McCain. And I don't know much about Sarah Palin either....well...other than she's kind of a hottie. (Just kidding...kind of...no I'm not kidding at all.) But I will be voting for them come Nov. I have no choice. Barack scares me, if I'm honest..and it has nothing to do with the color of his skin....so don't try playing that lame race card. All I have to do is do a little research to know that he's not the person I would like working for me...which is what the Government is supposed to do. They aren't suppose to run our lives or be our parents...or our Saviours. They are supposed to be public servants...not freaking celebrity rock stars.
Yeah...Obama sounds really smart when he has a teleprompter in front of him. He offers "change"! Well...if "change" is what you want, CHANGE is what you will get with Obama. But you won't hear about his socialist agendas from Katie Couric. All you will hear from CNN, MSNBC, CBS, and ABC is how awesome Obama is, while never telling you what he has ever done. Why is he suddenly the "saviour"? Does anyone know?
I don't REALLY care who anyone votes for...but I do hope everyone will at least do their own research into who these people are, and not let the media decide things for us. There's a reason why P. Diddy and those scumbags at MTV want 18 year old idiots who watch The Hills to "Rock The Vote!" Once you get fed a steady diet of propaganda you eventually buy into it.
Bottom line...do what you want. Thank God we are still free here in the States and we get to have a say about such matters. I suppose they are ALL politicians and we can't really trust ANY of them, but I would hate to see the people of the United States elect an Emperor because of his clothes...only to find out he is naked.

while we don't see eye to eye on our presidential choice (and i will not be casting a ballot for either of of the two main candidates) i gotta agree with one point you have made here. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LOOK INTO THESE PEOPLE FOR YOURSELVES!!!!! trusting the media is like trusting a dingo with your baby. and please when you do check up on the individual use more than one source. One thing that does bother me is that waaaay too many folks cast their ballot and think that their job is done. NOT TRUE! it is up to each and every one of us to hold these people we have put into office to as you put it "work for US". if we as a whole in this country would stop thinking that there is nothing i can do about lousy decision making in D.C. and step up to the plate to make our voices ring loud and clear, things WOULD change. if the cat you put into office lets everyone down, run him out of there! (and there are provisions for this to be done) i shall end with a favorite quote of mine....
"the people should not fear their government, but the government fear the people.
"

now go forth and make your vioces be noticed!

Good blog, Monty.

I just don't see how Obama actually expects people to believe that McCain is exactly like Bush. The Democratic vice-presidential nominee who actually RAN against Bush only eight years ago is supporting McCain! Same as Bush? That dog don't hunt.

"trusting the media is like trusting a dingo with your baby"

this has to be one of the best quotes ive seen in a while=) it makes me happy.

politics have never been my strong point, and in fact they usually annoy me and piss me off enough that anytime someoen tries to talk to me about them, i shut them down quick.

but the whole "Oboma Rocks!" thing has had me thinking for a while.
i Personally think that if hes not the anti christ, thats hes doing one hell of an impersonation job!
None of the candidates thrill me and if i do decide to vote....... it will be a write in vote for someoen strange, like hunter s. thompson(is he even alive still?) because none of the candidates actually deserve, or will do a good job at what they need to be doing... but they sure are good at acting like they will, that is untill after there elected, which is usually when there true colors come out... sigh... sad really, they should want to help america, not help themselves to be in history books and make more money.

The problem is that Palin doesn't even sound smart when she's got a teleprompter, and McCain is 72 years old... actuarial tables predict there's a 33% chance he won't make it through a first term. 33% chance that we're stuck with an idiot hockey mom for president.

That's no good... while I don't like McCain, he's waaaay better than Bush. I just wish he would have made a smarter VP selection.

My dream ticket would be Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich. But I'm more of a Green / Libertarian anyway.

I could never hate you Monty. I have never judged people based on their political views. If I did, I'd lose half my friends and family.

I'll try to keep this as simple as possible. I am not voting for McCain or Obama. If Ron Paul was still running, I would vote for him. Regardless, either McCain or Obama is going to win this election. I agree, don't trust the media and do your own research. I have, and I feel America is screwed with either choice. I have always hated the government. I feel they should have taken more time to develop a smarter plan for the bailout of Wall Street. Things will just continue to get worse for the middle class. We will continue to fund wars and bail out the rich with our tax dollars. Is either Obama or McCain going to get federal spending under control or close the borders to Mexico and Canada? What about these outrageous fuel prices? We will continue to lose more jobs if taxes are raised on those with annual incomes over 250,000 dollars. I could go on and on. I know so many people who have 3 or 4 jobs within their households, and can't afford to do anything. Can't pay the bills, the babysitter, can't afford to buy food or fill up the tank all the way. I feel the country is doomed.

I end with this evaluation of Sarah Palin. I don't know much about her either, and YEAH, she is HOT! She just seems pretty stupid otherwise...even more reason not to vote for the out of touch Mr. McCain.

I don't know if Palin is good for the lower 48 (49 as it were) but she's a pretty great governer up here in Alaska.
At the same time, what is the VP but a figure head in line to become President should the President die?

That's not my real issue with this election though. My issue is Senator Barak Hussein Obama. The guys middle name is Hussein. I'm not trying to make any ties to Saddam by any means, my point is this guy comes from a Muslim family. He's become "Christian" as a political move towards the White House. His wife has made the comment many times, before the presidental campain, "She has never been proud to be an American". What does this say to us? What should it say to us? Are we going to be supporters of the Arab world now and leave Israel behind? God help America if we do. Unfortunately, it is God who says if we help the Jewish people we shall be blessed, but those who curse her shall have those curses heaped upon themselves. That's obviously a paraphrase.

The Liberal agenda, and the liberal media scare me. I'll be one of those saying we "should have voted for Ron Paul", he was the only voice making sense, that had an ounce of integrity. I can justify voting for either party this time around. The liberals are almost evil, and the conserviatives have lost their way. I'll be voting independant this year, even though I know I'm throwing my vote away, at least I'll be able to live sleep at night.

Palin is a hottie, though. Does that just sort of nullify everything I said? Prolly.

Jeez, Monty. You read my mind. Yes, both candidates are scumbags... but McCain, at least, is a scumbag I know. It is amazing to see the lemming-like mentality of a large part of our great nation. Voting for someone just because they are radically different? Does "different" automatically mean "better"? And this general thinking that, just because McCain is from the same party as Bush, he will keep and execute the same policies on everything from the ecomony to foreign policy is ludicrous. The ability to think for one's self in this country is fleeting. It is too easy to let television and the internet make our choices for us. I guess the failures in the American educational system are finally coming back to haunt us.

So, what do you say... Colvin/Pinnick 2012? "For a solid 'bass' of government.

After digesting what network news has to say about everyone its good to hear people that are still thinking straight. As (sort of) a black guy I am finding that most white people that are voting for Obama are voting out of white guilt. Black men voting for Obama just want a black man in office. Black women voting for Obama arent voting for him, they are voting for his wife. All of these are extremely NOVEL reasons to vote someone into the highest office of this land but not everyone I know sees it that way.

The economy I think will be the deciding factor for America this time around and if tradition continues it will get worse and worse and the current president will blame the last president, so on so on.

They believe him a "savior" because they think AS SOON as someone else takes over he's gonna snap his fingers and instantly things will get better. If Bush is the "anti-christ" as most believe then Obama has got to be the savior of us all.

Where do I stand? I've said it before and if im proven wrong you can all line up and blast my junk but I think Obama is gonna be the next president. I just think popularity has pushed common damn sense aside this time around. I will be voting for McCain because he offends me the least and in the end, isn't that how we all decide anyway.

btw, Palin IS a freakin hottie. Kinda got that naughty librarian thing goin on. Oh yeah, take those glasses off and let the hair down whooo........sorry

While I am glad you brought out the fact that people need to do some research before they vote, I have to disagree with the idea that you have no choice but to vote for McCain. There are several other candidates on the ballot in most states, and two of them will follow the Constitution much more closely than anyone from the two major parties. I'm voting for Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party. Most folks would say I'm throwing my vote away or that I'm helping Obama win, but my response to that is this: it's McCain's fault if he loses. If McCain would show me that he would follow the Constitution, I'd vote for him, but so far he has only shown that he will start more wars and continue to bankrupt this country. I know alot of Republicans who are voting for McCain because he's the lesser of two evils. But if you vote for the lesser of two evils, you're still voting for evil. I can't do that anymore. I've done it for the past eight years, and I won't do it again. For once my vote will be for the person who I honestly don't think is evil at all. For the record, here are your other choices: Chuck Baldwin, Bob Barr, Ralph Nader, Cynthia McKinney.

I totally agree with your assessment of the situation. Obama's past accomplishments are thin, past associations are questionable, and future plans are heavily socialistic. McCain in the past has aligned with liberals instead of standing with true conservatives. Sarah is great.

Once again Monty, someone does their homework and then voices the facts (not their opinion). But.....once again, after someone.....o.k. you, voice the facts out there people who are either soley educated by the media, are "moved" by well read speeches (that are written by other people) or are so ignorant of everything going on that they are STUPID! Guys, how about stepping away from our XBOX 306's and PS3's just long enough to look into these people out their who "claim" to have done this or that, when it's all lies. For the uneducated who want to continue degrading Gov. Palin, take a moment a research her track record. You WILL find out that (regardless if you hate her delivery of speeches) that she wlaks the walk. Don't know 'bout the rest of you, but I remember a time when the "proof was in the pudding" that is who you trusted and went with, not because you had the warm fuzzies after someone read you a fairy tale.

Exceptionally well put. I think the thing that people need to read from this, more than "who is Monty voting for" is to do their own research. Don't trust what the media has to say because in the end, their checks are written by the people who purchase ad space on their networks. And, as we all know, ad space right now is dominated by political candidates.

People believe Obama is going to change things. And really, some of the things he says he'll change would be fantastic improvements. However, the issue I have is this, he never addresses HOW he plans to change things. Also, I think it would be impossible for him to change things in the course of four years. At least McCain realizes that socialism is not an appropriate method of ruling a governmental system, and isn't promising things that he realistically and statistically is unable to provide.

The president can't make the changes that the Big O [that should piss some anime fans off] is promising. Those decisions ultimately lay upon congress and the house. The sooner people realize that, the better things will be. The person we'll be voting for is merely a spokesperson for the groups that do the decision making for the country. That's why I think Obama can't produce the change he's promising.

Monty,

I couldn't agree more. Ask the majority of the people who are voting for Obama, and they either : a.) don't know, but they think he's cool, or b.) He's not George Bush. Both lame reasons for voting for a candidate. The founding fathers were right to set up the electoral college system, because they knew that the majority of people vote for all the wrong reasons.

My advice to people is to list out the issues that are important to you and check out the candidates websites. It's all there in black and white.

Me personally, I vote pro-life first because all other rights stem from the right to life. That's why I'm pulling the lever for the McCain/Palin ticket this year.

Hey Monty,

While I agree that all politicians are untrustworthy scumbags, I think the real problem isn't McCain, Palin, Obama or Biden. Any time there's a monopoly, the majority (consumers/voters) lose. As long as we only have two so-called choices, our country's doomed to continue it's downward slide. We need more choices. The more the better. If we had 3-5 choices, it would force the lying scumbags to be at least somewhat more honest.

I was totally going to vote for Ron Paul...even as it became clear that he'd be a snowball's chance write in candidate. Just to drive it home that we NEED more choices. Well, not just for that reason. He's the only person who campaigned who had a rock solid record for honesty, integrity, and sticking the fricking constitution. What a radical concept! I disagree with his abortion stance and a few other things, but I agreed with a bunch of his other beliefs.

But then, Palin was selected (for all the WRONG reasons: for the Hillary vote, for the radical right Christian vote, for voters who want a candidate with media appeal, etc.). To me, the the very real possibility of a Christian extremist with no real experience taking over our country is terrifying. She has not respect for the NECESSARY separation of church and state. Even Jefferson stated that our country was never founded on the Christian religion.

So, with a heavy heart, I'm going to be forced, again, to pick the lesser of two evils. And that, for me at least, no offense to McCain supporters, is Obama. And no (to the guy commented about this), he isn't Muslim or Islam or whatever. I was raised Catholic and sent to Catholic schools and I'm an Atheist. Let's not make irrational, ignorant assumptions based on someone's name. We're better than that, America.

McCain does not know how to address the American people & he simply cannot out-debate Obama... Like professional wrestling, the deals have already been made & the final outcome of this election has already been decided... The Republicans have thrown the race -- it's the other party's turn (so to speak)...

So, if your supporting Barry Hussiane, congradulations -- you won... Hope you enjoy your new life ("change" as you like to call it) in The United States Of Socialist Europe... Hope you also attend some of the gala events in China, North Korea, Pakistan, & Iran as they celebrate the globalization of (what once was) America & as they laugh their (communistic) a$$e$ off at the dumming-down of (again what once was) OUR PROUD INDEPENDENT NATION...

& I'm sure that Wal-Mart will have those "foot-washing basins" on sale for all of the entrances & exits of your homes & businesses... Again, congradulations & I hope you enjoy... :)

There's propoganda coming from all side, but yes you can do your own research and vetting and you'll find that a lot of what out there are vicious smears of Obama, his policies and his record.

So Obama scares you? Well, you are really manly man aren't cha?

Nothing he's ever suggested is as "socialist" as what George Bush just did with Wall Street. He wants to pull us out of our current near-depression the way the FDR pulled us out of the previous depression, by investing in America - and in Americans. He doesn't want to be our "Savior" or a "Rock Star" (Look whose talking), he simply wants to help us restore our belief in ourselves, that we can all make a difference if we dare to hope, and dare to dream. Look you don't have to agree with his specific policy proposals, but at least he has some compared to McCain who keeps changing his mind everytime the wind blows.

Yeah, we need Change.

We've 8 years of people who hate government, running the government into the ground - along with the American military and the people while enriching their corporate friends. They don't care about us, they don't caere about you - only their offshore bank accounts, period. That has to stop, and McCain isn't going to stop it - he's part of the problem, not the solution.

Thanks for at least having the guts to say what you believe.

Like I said...vote for who you want. Most people have their minds made up by now. You are free to disagree with me. But don't question my manhood. And by the way...last time I checked, I'm not running for the highest office in the land...So I guess it's ok for me to be a "Rockstar" My point was...he has been made into a "celebrity" by the media. OK, I wasn't going to get into this, because religion and politics are two things you probably shouldn't argue about (as you say, most people have made up their minds already!!), but I saw this article in the Chicago Tribune, an interview with real, actual Socialists, about whether or not Obama is a socialist, and I thought it was worth a look.
You can read it here:
http://www. chicagotribune. com/news/chi-obama-chicago-socialist,0,4048540. story

Lest you decide that this is more liberal media bias, the Chicago Tribune has a long-standing reputation as an extremely conservative newspaper. Interestingly, up until this election, the Tribune has NEVER endorsed the Democratic candidate for President. Ever. Going back to the paper's inception circa 1870. They have endorsed a few Independents and Progressives, but mostly Republicans, including W. in the last two elections. Granted, you should never vote for someone just because a newspaper says so, but when a long-standing conservative publication has such a radical shift, that should at least give you pause. I think the same goes for Colin Powell's endorsement.

My brother is earning his doctorate in Political Science, and is someone I consider somewhat of an "expert witness" on these matters. He looks like he's going to have an aneurysm every time someone calls Obama a Socialist.

Full disclosure: I am planning to vote for Obama, but I have been for a long time, even before he announced his candidacy. I used to listen to his podcast when he first became a Senator, and have always found him to be an articulate and thoughtful individual. My impressions at that time were, "Gee, it would be neat if this guy ran for President someday," never dreaming that it would happen so soon, or that he would find himself on the brink of election in 2008. This is the first time in my entire voting career that I am actually excited about my candidate, and not simply voting for him because he's not "the other guy.
"

The point, I guess, is that it would be unfortunate to make the assumption that Obama supporters are simply being hooked in by the media. One could flip the argument around and claim that accusing Obama of Socialism is just a Republican talking point, akin to "swift-boating.
"

And questioning someone's manhood has absolutely no place in political discourse! Besides, insulting someone you disagree with is not usually the most persuasive way to change their mind.

Anyway, thanks for listening.
Onward and upward!
