Quite the party I must say. The new location was very far from the sea but was an awesome facility and felt like we had our own little neverland all to ourselves. We were kind of terrified of our time slot and location at first seeing as how we were playing in a cowboy bar at 4pm but it was actually kick ass and suited us well. It actually felt strangely like many of our Taipei shows that are all club/bar based and the lighting basically made it feel like it was 1 in the morning. We would sincerely like to thank all the kids who came out of the woodwork to see us play. There were a lot of good bands there this year and it was an honor to see the support we had by so many strangers/friends and peers. Taiwan you kick ass. Thanks for the love. My personal favorite bands that I saw over the weekend were The Doolittles and The Anglers. I have never seen the Doolittles before, I believe that they are Taichung based, but they played some of the most engaging, weighted slow songs I have heard in a long time. The guitar melodies were instantly connecting with me and they just plain had class. Well done doolittles! The Anglers are very nice people and also the best roots band on this rock. The rhythm section was flat out dropping bombs on my ears. If you have not heard them you are missing out. Tyler's guitar is elegant and sweet and Scott's voice is a perfect sleeping lion. We are lucky to have these guys playing here in Taiwan as they would do equally well if not much more successfully back home in Canada.
Other bands I liked met were the quite famous Mates of State you I had a chance to meet and chat with by chance down at the pool. They were kind New Yorkers and really brought the level of music up a notch as far as proffesionalism, dynamics and energy go. Great musicians. The Octopus Project was amazing to watch and was a great example of were rock/electronica is heading right now.
Some side notes. All the boys in The Idiots are some of the coolest and nicest people I have met yet here and they are a very fun band that is going to make a lot of people happy who go to their shows. the band Rocket Girl absolutely carried the torch for the free spirit of Spring Scream. They are beautiful freaky people who are like lighting bolts of sex blasted out of available speakers riding on an LSD enduced clowd of freedom. My hat is off to them for their attitude.
I would have loved to see as many fans of music there as there were performing musicians. Spring Scream in a lot of ways kind of felt like an industry party of sorts and it would be cool to be playing for more of the college kids of Taiwan. That being said I am glad that there were still as many people (3000??) as there was seeing as how many other rip off fests are trying to steal Spring Scream's spot down in Kending. I think we counted 6 others, spring wave, leap into spring etc... Taiwan is kinda wierd like that it seems.
Next up is going to be Peace Fest and we are super looking forward to being a part of that. I believe it is in mid june up in Nantong?? Don't quote me on that this is just my rant.
Peace and respect.
