Been long enough since I did one of these, eh? At least there's a bit of news to report at last. This has been posted as a bulletin, but I want to post it as a blog as well. Maybe people will pay more attention to it that way.

15-11 Enterprises is quietly back in action again; as you may or may not recall from previous bulletins I've posted, I found myself entirely without technology for making music after a major computer crash in November last year. No actual work lost, I don't think, but equally nothing to keep doing work with. I have said technology once more... now all I need are ideas. Unfortunately the ideas are the hard part, aren't they...

It also appears that Ant (remember him? The other half of the band?) and I have a gig coming up at the next Sunday Wreckovery, the event Ant organises at the Excelsior Hotel. Looking at mid-May for this. This will be my THIRD appearance at Wreckovery, cos I DJed between bands at the first one and I played as part of the Inflatable Voodoo Dolls at the most recent one (March 8th). So this will be 15-11's second gig ever! And this time we've had two months' notice instead of just two weeks... which means we'll probably get two years' notice for the third one, two decades for the fourth, two centuries for the fifth, two millennia for the sixth, and two aeons for the seventh.

A fairly serious rethink of what the hell it is I'm trying to do with 15-11 is on the cards, although not until after this gig is over (bit late to reinvent the band wholesale). Suffice to say there have been times of late I've wished I could play guitar. I think I've always said the primary reason I make electronic music is because I can't really play a "proper" instrument like the guitar, and I'm finding myself less and less happy with the sort of electro pop that's becoming big these days. Instead I find my head turned by a compilation one of my colleagues at 2SER has assembled of "new folk", wishing I could do something similar myself. I've never really wanted to make "dance music" or have a conventional club hit, and I think I want that less and less now. But what to do instead? I'm not sure my on-and-off dark ambient project is necessarily the answer either. And I couldn't get to grips with the guitar when I was 16/17, I can't see me having much more success now...

Meanwhile I'm still doing that radio show on 2SER called Dark Passage, and I thoroughly recommend you tune in. Especially if you live in an earlier time zone to Sydney, cos then you don't have to tune in quite so late. Every Thursday night at midnight, 107.3 FM or http://www.2ser.com/stream, go and add me: http://www.myspace.com/darkpassage2ser

Enough of this, cos it's three in the morning and even I need to sleep at some point.

May all beings be happy,
JG
