Hello
By now I think most of you will have picked up that Joyce, Hazel’s Mum is very ill. She has been ill for some time but things took a turn for the worse at Christmas. As
I write this she is back in hospital yet again although we are all
quietly optimistic that she will be discharged sometime during the next
few days.
For those of you that don’t know this, Joyce used to run Hazel’s Fan Club back in the day. She developed a strong bond with many of the then young and some, not so young, fans. Many of who are still in touch today, either via one of these cyber methods or a more direct route.
However Joyce has charged me with emailing you on her behalf and so below, is a type version of her letter to you all. I
will scan it and add it in to Hazel’s next “occasional newsletter” so
all you original fan club members can add it to you collection. I
know that lots of you still have all her letters but I wanted to get
this out fast as the other side of her instructions to me where that I
was to get you all to vote for Hazel in the Coventry Walk of Fame – so
here is the information if you haven’t picked it up via one of the
other Hazel sites.
Hazel is on the shortlist of 18 people for the Coventry Walk of Fame.
Please vote for Hazel and encourage as many people as possible to do so too - Voting closes Sunday midnight 1st March
(GMT for those of you not in England) - it’s free and you don't have to
join a thing... and I think you can vote more than once....

JOYCE’S LETTER
Dear
Hazelnuts – How long ago was it when I address you all in this manner?
Hazel’s Mum here – for the benefit of newer “interestees” (just made
that word up), this was what the old fan club members were jokingly
called. And it was a lifetime ago. But what
happy memories I have of those far away days – of get-togethers, of
concerts; a disco party at Hammersmith Town Hall; Edinburgh Festival. Waving
to “The Faithful” from Duke of York Theatre – they were not there to
wave to me – they were lining the street to see “the stars” arriving to
celebrate the end of hostilities in the Falklands. Strange how hostilities never do end?
I have received lovely card and messages from friends I have made through those wonderful years. Some
of you were teenagers, some at school even – and though some names
escape me – some of you are firmly established in the aged memory cells. Stephen – now in Australia and it was great to receive a card from you. I often wondered how my young sailor friend was? Thank you! Lucky old Australia!
And
Becks and Tracey – I’ve spent a lot of time in Walsgrave Hospital, and
again, wondered what became of two super doctors I met along the way. And I thank you two also, for your wishes. Oddly enough, I spent an enjoyable holiday in your “neck of the woods”, last year; this is where my cousin lives.
A quick belated congratulations to Danny and Debs – 20th wedding anniversary – wow! That’s one-up-man ship Danny!
To Andrew, 27/754, who has always considered himself to be my honorary son-in-law No 1, none the less! Bless you!
Susan Delo was mentioned in one read off, by her off spring. How nice to hear a “name from the past”. Thank
you for getting in touch from both Hazel and me as said lady was indeed
a neighbour, from the street where we both lived, a life time ago.
To
each and every one of you lovely people, thank you for your good wishes
– they really help, even if the eyes are a wee bit moist when reading
‘em!
Thank you to everyone who has taken time and trouble to send such warm messages. I count myself very lucky to have wonderful people around me. The road is a wee bit bumpy, but some of the bumps are reduced by their care and positive wishes.
Lotsaluv
Joyce (this is followed by a smiley face and) xxx
