Detonate return to Stealth this Friday and bring with em always a massive line up!! Goldie, Calibre, Sigma and Dubstep/Grime regular Plastician!! Known primarily for a string of innovative releases on Road, Soulja, Terror Rhythm, Rephlex, Dump Valve and responsible for one third of the first 'Grime' LP, the album that really pushed Dubstep/Instrumental Grime into the public consciousness!! He had a spare min from his busy schedule of gigs and radio shows so we put a few questions to him >>

Your city.....
London

Your club......Manchester United

First record bought.....M Dubs - Over You

When (where, how, etc.) did you start deejaying?

I started DJ'ing in my bedroom after buying a set of decks off a friend at college. I had just started listening to and buying UK Garage records, and just wanted to record my own tapes instead of recording people's pirate radio shows.

Number of records in your collection?

Damn... I don't know. I am mainly using digital now, have been 99% digital for 5 years so only bought the odd classic track on vinyl since then. But even that said, I reckon I still have about 3000 records in my house. If I continued to cut dubplates and buy vinyl we'd be looking at close to 5000 I reckon. If its any consolation I have over 11,000 MP3 and WAV files on my hard drives. A lot of it is shit I have been sent and haven't deleted yet but there are some proper gems there too that will never see light of day.

Role model......Hmmm.... I don't really know anymore. In terms of DJing I don't really have one, I like to be who I am which just means I have to keep on point all the time. In life I hope I can be like my dad when I am older.

The most important thing while mixing is…..
Knowing when to stop mixing!! Some DJ's think that holding two tunes together in a mix for 5 minutes is what people want to hear. Not always the case. OK it shows you can hold a mix and thats great, but some tracks are better left to drop on their own. If you're going to do a 5 minute blend of two tunes, you have to pick two tunes that sound great together. If you've got two wobbly bangers going at the same time, not matter how tight the mix is, its going to sound like a mess. I could go on all day about this, a lot of good DJ's think that holding every mix for 3 minutes is exciting..... not to me... choose your blends, choose the big drops, choose the chops, choose the short blends - its all very important.

My strongest fear is…..
I don't know. I don't like the idea of doing another job unless I overnight became good enough to play premiership football. So I'd say that losing my grip on the music is a big fear. That and large fish in the sea.

Thing, which is always with you on the journey...I'd like to say my girlfriend Caroline but she can't make every trip!! So I'll have to say my laptop and my Serato. They're always there to keep me amused on the train journeys and flights.

When I’m not busy with music I am with…….I spend a lot of time with my girlfriend. I like to get out and socialise with my mates as well, but as we're all getting older and settling down into houses and relationships its becoming more difficult! I also try to catch my pals gigs as well so if I fancy a knees up I'll normally bell Skream or Benga to see where they're off to if I get a night off.

Track you're currently working on?

Working on a lot of remixes at the moment. Gary Go - Engines and Chew Lips - Salt Water are my two most time consuming works at the moment.

Music is…...don't want to be cliche and write "life" here cos that would be a bit David Brent wouldn't it? I'm going to say Music is Milky.

Your top 5 records: (of the moment)

1. Tempa T - Next Hype (Plastician Remix)
2. The Streets - Blinded By The Lights (Nero Remix)
3. Crissy Criss - Blow Your Head Off
4. Joker - Digidesign (Om Unit Remix)
5. Plastician - Retro
