The mayor of my hometown vetoed a bill banning discrimination based on sexual orientation. A bill banning discrimination, Mayor Sullivan, is NOT an opportunity to exercise veto power.

Someone please explain to me why this happened. Whether or not you agree with the lifestyle, a citizen of the United States of America should never be denied equal rights, equal employment opportunity. To my understanding, this bill even protected the rights of religious organizations to hire only in accordance with their stated beliefs. So why does my city proceed with and applaud unlawful discrimination?

idk man, ppl are so ignorant, i mean i might not be the most comfortable with homosexuals but i still have alot of gay friends and that respect my religious beliefs and don't knock me for it. so for other ppl such as conservatives that have the same views as me, does not mean that u have the right to take away something that for years all diverse groups of ppl have been fighting for sense the beginning of our great country. we all bleed red whats so hard to understand about that???

I totally agree with you. I'm kinda glad I'm not living there right now. I think we should all have equal rights no matter who we love or what we beleive.

The big problem the community had with the Bill was that it would prevent schools, offices, and any jobs from preventing employees from cross-dressing at work. Many people dont believe they should have to explain to their 6 year old why their male teacher wears dresses.  I do not think Mayor Sullivan wants to permit discrimination based on a persons sexual preferrence - however the Bill that was passed encompassed a lot more than just a persons sexual orientation.
