The world of touring musicians is filled with dangers, obstacles, and roadblocks, both literal and metaphorical. Join TOUR : Smart and Break the Band author Martin Atkins for a candid and hilarious discussion of what bands can do to beat the odds and survive on the road intact.

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 10 7:00 pm

IDL Ballroom

200 E. 1st Street
Tulsa, OK 74103

This event is open to the public and FREE to attend.

For over three decades, Martin Atkins has been at the cutting edge of where the entertainment industry is and where it's headed, whether through his work with Johnny Rotten's band, Public Image Limited, playing with Nine Inch Nails, touring the world with his own band, Pigface, or working with Beijing's emerging indie rock scene.
Martin was a member of Public Image Ltd and Killing Joke, has contributed to Nine Inch Nails and Ministry and founded industrial supergroup Pigface, The Damage Manual, and Murder Inc. Martin is a producer, drummer, documentary film maker, DJ, professor (Madison Media Institute, Columbia College) and most recently started his own entrepreneurial school, revolution number three. He has been organizing, booking, and managing multi-band package tours for over a decade.

In discussing his definitive book on touring, Martin will not only share valuable insight into his methods on booking and touring, but also a discussion of mistakes and failures.

In 90 minutes, you will learn:
• time-tested industry tips & techniques
• how to market oneself as a musician
• how to get more people to come to your shows
• and much more!

Martin's agenda will cover:
• the state of the music industry
• strategies for successful touring in the US
• why you must book yourself
• marketing
• packaging
• questions from the audience

If you want to thrive - not just survive - on the road, you can't afford to miss this informative and entertaining event.

Here’s what others have said about Martin Atkins:
• “Martin Atkins is the best speaker on the planet” – Paul Natkin, Chicago Music Commission

• “Atkins [has] joined a list of rockers who have made the transition from the stage to the lecture circuit, including David Byrne, Lou Reed and Brian Eno.” – Greg Kot, Chicago Tribune

• “Atkins’ lectures are gateway drugs to a larger education” - Brett Emerson, Second Supper (La Crosse, WI)

• "Martin Atkins emanates aggressive wit and wears his punk-rock DIY street cred on both sleeves. He is deeply funny -- but don't let the entertaining presentation fool you. He has serious insight into the psyche of the performer. If you want to go out on tour and come back with some of your dignity and sanity intact, listen to this guy. " - Dr Mike Jolkovski Psychologist & Consultant to musicians & groups

• “Having been a part of seminal bands like Pigface, Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, Killing Joke, Public Image Limited, when Atkins talks about the business of music, people listen” – Richie Corelli, Soundscet.com

• “One of the best student presentations I have heard in 17 years at WIU” – Jim Kenny, Professor of Marketing, Western Illinois University

To the folks that put this together, thank you.  I think your name is Tom Green.  We needed the kick in the ass and the fresh air to survive as the backward, unhinged, crazy humans we've become - all due to the three chords and a 4/4 time.  Cheers.
