I Am Your Cat...
by Donna Norris for Lelani

Do not think of me as an object to bring you fame in the show ring.

My most prized trophy is a gentle touch from you.

Do not expect from me a new family of babies every four months.

I love my little ones and want them with me so I may teach and play with them for many months as a good mother should.

Do not keep me confined in a cage.
I am a free spirit.
Let me live with you in your home.

Do not think of me as an unknowing, uncaring or an independent being, for I need you.

Accept me as I am, care for me, love me and be my friend I will give you in return:

A soft touch of my paw on your cheek when you are troubled,
A companion when you are lonely,
A clown when you are depressed
A trusting, loving, purring being,
Content to share your happiness and sorrow.

Let me be with you in our small part of this world for He has created you and me.

Do not think of me as a simple creature, for I can see angels you cannot see.

I can feel the vibrations and wonders of the Universe you can not feel. And when the time comes when I will have to leave you, remember, I will always be with you for our spirits are One.

Love me. Cherish me. Care for me.

I am your Cat.

I didn't write this poem- it was written by a former CFA judge and breeder who has now passed on. I wanted to give my friends who may not have had the opportunity, the chance to read it, because it expresses perfectly my approach to breeding and showing. I wish I could meet more show breeders who shared this philosophy with me.

I do not bread cats but that was so beautiful, it made me think of my Willow and my three living cats.

16 years ago I had Pepsie, she became pregnant and I decided to keep her babies, their names in order of birth are;- Hobbit, Tigger (you'll never guess his colouring, lol) and Pinkchin who is now just plain Pink, since I love the singer, lol. Pinkchin was just a nickname because of his big pink chin when he was born but it stuck, lol.

A few months after the birth, I had wished that I had named one Willow as it is such a lovely name and I was reading Terry Brooks at the time. Along came Willow......

My best friends sister found a stray kitten he was about 4-5 weeks old and had already been in the wars. She couldn't find anyone to home him so guess who did!!! They had called him Kitty, Grrr. So I named him Kitty-Willow and eventually dropped the Kitty. He was my soulmate. I have never known an animal with such insight and love as him.

He died just after Christmas last year. He was 13 1/2 and had kidney problems.

Now I am an emotional person, some would say too much so. I cried for two days but then no more. I was confused, I expected to collapse in a heap. Although sad he is not here, when I think of him, I just smile. I know he is with me, I know I will see him again and I know the love we shared will never fade.

And the others; well Hobbit is my Baby Girl; she is sweet but can be a right cow; Pink is my Baby Boy and he really is a big baby I can tell you, lol. Tigger, well I have never really been able to bond with him, he's just a cat! The other two have such traits but he has always been a loner so have never had chance to get close. However he was the one to take Willow under his wing, when he joined the family.

So the story of my family, they will be 15 on the 26th April.

I should perhaps written written to you, sorry it's so long, whoops.

Take Care Pamela X
