The Fresno Philharmonic Roles Out The Red Carpet For
Hollywood Movie Scores

Can you imagine what your favorite movie would be like without any music? Think about movies such as Star Wars, Superman, and Indiana Jones, and you may have a hard time imagining those movies without their clever theme songs. Join the Fresno Philharmonic on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. at the Saroyan Theatre at 700 M Street Fresno, CA 9372. Experience the power and genius of both classic and new Hollywood Movie Scores. Tickets start at $24 for adults. Student rush tickets are $12 available 1 hour before the concert with valid I.D.

The first half of the concert will be filled with Hollywood movie scores such as Silverado, The Wizard of Oz, Chicago, Spiderman, Pirates of the Caribbean and Godfather. The second half of the concert you will experience the masterful and diverse music of John Williams. A few of Williams' pieces include Raiders of the Lost Ark, Harry Potter, E.T., and Star Wars.

Carl Topilow will be the guest conductor for the January concert. As the conductor of the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, Topilow is renowned worldwide for his versatility as well as his trademark red clarinet. "We are presenting a concert of wonderful music, which the League of American Orchestras recently called the 'new classical music', the music of Hollywood."

Topilow's pops performances blend light classical, swing, jazz, Broadway, Dixieland, and Klezmer music. Carl Topilow sums it up best, "the music you will hear [at the concert] is so closely identified with classic films, and so distinctly American, that it has become classic in its own time."

Of course the concert is about the music, but it is worth mentioning that Star Wars characters, compliments of the 501st Legion: Vader's Fist will be mingling in the lobby before the concert and during intermission. All those who would like to dress up and walk down the red carpet as their favorite star or movie character are welcomed!
