Current mood:  focused
Category: Writing and Poetry
I have been surfing famecast and I feel like these poets submitting poems performed at home, on the block, in the back yard and every place except in front of an audience are direspecting themselves if they call themselves professionals and hurting our cause more than helping by submitting bootleg productions.
We poets, performance poets and spoken word artist have to step our game up. We are on a campaign to be recognized as the art form we are and represent and no matter how much I might like the piece submitted,
I'm from the showme state and you gotta showme you earning your stripes working a crowd to survive the critisms, hand claps and all that comes with everything in between. I just have to say if you want my respect or the respect of any person performs as a professional step up to the mic to face lifes likes and dislikes because the title professioanl comes with a price called sacrifice. I want to know who is with me and who is against me and why? I do and will appreciate your responses because the worst thing that will hapeen is I will grow and the best thing that could happen only the future knows.
Peace love respect and blessings

Sometimes when we call ourselves professional it is contextual. We think because we love something we are pros at it, that is not the case. Many may say spoken word artist who do not have published books or been in literary journals or have MFAs are not "professional". I see both sides of it. granted, if someone is just making home videos doung the soulja boy and poetry, they may have talent but not be professional, and that is VERY different. In the gimme time, people don't want to study the craft and put in the work to polish themselves. I agree, it does take great sacrifice, and submission to edits, revisions, and being a student. I feel like that when people think they can teach. I am like you have to know how to do lesson plans and the whole nine, not just stand up and keep students captivated. Anywho, that is my take on it. Write On bro Priest.

Thanks for your comments I really appreciate it and feel free to start a line of dialog. I want this to become a place of growth through open and honest dialog. I like your cross reference to teaching I respect the discipline it takes to undertake developing a young mind. I have taught to the blessing of some people who gave me a chance because I am not degreed and because of that fact I made sure ai did my home work and prep work to earn the respect of my peers also not wnating to disrespect the position and opportunity I had been given. I learned a lot from the process and the interaction between student, teacher and faculty. Thanks again
Peace, love, respect and blessings

who decides on professionalism. Some people can be late. Genres like music and poetry people can be before their time and when folks finally catch up, people miss them. Like MeShell N'Degeocello. Folks sleep on her, she is def one of the mothe's of Neo soul. Do you think Anthony Hamilton is a Professional the way Al Green is. at what point do you cross over and who gets to decide?
