Nigga Please, Nigga! Don't call me nigga no mo'
I ain't been a nigga since I stepped off that boat,
herded like cattle, sheep, or goats,
shackles on my wrist, ankles, and my throat,
I was a captive, not a nigga...
I laboured under the whip, with a rake and hoe,
with no rewards for the seeds I sow,
broke my back so the cotton could grow,
I was a slave, not a nigga...
I escaped the south, chased by hounds,
To the promised freedom of northern towns,
but didn't expect the hate I found,
I was a fugitive, not a nigga...
I was taunted, spit on and brutalized,
couldn't see the future, for the blood in my eyes,
nothing to stand for, but still I rise,
I was a victim, not a nigga...
I saw the nation ripped apart at its seams,
As I sought equality by any means,
Couldn't overcome, but I dared to dream,
I was a revolutionary, not a nigga...
I spilled my blood in foreign lands,
On jungle floors and desert sands,
For the flag and the 'Republic For Which It Stands'
I was a hero, not a nigga...
I've been many things since I stepped off that boat,
I ripped the bonds from my hands, feet, and throat,
I've endured pains that you need never know,
So, brother please, brother. Dont call me nigga no mo'.......
