Hey all,
We've been quiet for the past few months, and I'd like let everyone know what the status of the band is, since we've been asked a lot lately.
Yes, we're still together. As the founder of this band, I still have a lot of things I would like to accomplish, given the place in the independent music scene we've all worked hard to get to over the last 4 years.
The reason we're not playing a whole lot of shows these days is because we're all pretty darn busy. All of the other guys in the band are currently working long hours and perusing careers through busy academic schedules. John is doing some amazing guitar modifications these days, so don't be surprised to see him offering his unique services to the public soon. Tyler is playing bass in this great acoustic project I Am The Branch - www.myspace.com/iamthebranch They just released a disc, so buy it! As the oldest dude in the band, I've been out of school for a few years, and I'm lucky enough to be working full time in the graphic arts industry, working with record labels and bands designing tshirts and album art. You can check out my work here myspace.com/bayscreenprinting When I'm not at work, I'm at my home studio, recording all kinds of amazing bands from all over the US. Here's the myspace address for my studio myspace.com/randomawesomerecording
Some of you may be confused as to us being a band or a clothing line - I guess we're a bit of both. I just really enjoy designing shirts, hoodies, and other merchandise that help promote the band, and the band in-turn affords us the ability to put out cool merch :) My wife keeps bugging me to start a separate clothing line, so maybe it will branch out one day and separate my 2 artistic outlets a little more cleanly, haha.
But back to the music. We're constantly writing new material, and there's a ton of exciting new stuff in the works. It will be worth the wait, we promise :)
Here's a thought...
Ever notice how the 2nd CD from a lot of bands will suck? I have a theory about rushing into a second album, and it goes like this... Many bands will sign to a record label, proceed to record their 10 best songs, and tour like madmen. It's the typical path of any breakout artist. When it comes time to record their 2nd CD, they've only had 15 months to write new material, and they've spent the last 6-12 months touring in support of their 1st CD, so they've virtually had no time to write a 2nd album, ie, it's rushed and it's tres-meh.
In addition to that, a lot of bands become too self-aware of their own success, so they write self-conscious music that is a caricature of their own sound. It's the same with books and film. Just look at George Lucas with the new Star Wars movies fiasco - it's all Star Wars cliches, and none of the great story telling from 4, 5 and 6.
Not every band falls into this trap, but many do, and I don't intend for that to happen with Besieged, because we're taking all the necessary time and treating our 2nd album from the approach of starting from scratch. Blood & Ink Records has been a blessing in allowing us all the time and creative freedom we need.
Keep checking back for updates soon!
Much love,
-Josh and Besieged
PS Yeah, we're still working on that covers EP, too.
