Thomas Midgley - the "genius" scientist that firstly invented leaded petrol, causing world-wide lead contamination. Then he invented CFCs for refrigeration - causing the destruction of the ozone layer. He "had more impact on the atmosphere than any other single organism in earth history." Thanks Tom.
In an ironic twist, he later contracted polio and invented an adjustable bed to lie in. He died when he got entangled in the ropes and was strangled.
