Henceforth - An Ambush Among Friends

Over three years ago, I saw Henceforth play somewhere in Amsterdam, I totally wasn't into it and I didn't had the chance to check them out again later on. So when I got the new record I was surprised to hear them play some pretty interesting tunes. This outfit from the city of Amsterdam has a sound of their own, it is old school hardcore but with some unique modern influences and a lot of melodic parts.

I find it kind of hard to compare them to other bands, but if I have to mention some names; Bane, As Friends Rust, old Ignite and some of the Rivalry bands comes to mind. I am pretty surprised by the format of this release. This record is 10 songs on cd and a 7" containing four songs also on the cd but in another mix with some samples added. I haven't seen this before, although the songs aren't that different on the cd in comparison with the 7", the whole idea is appealing.

The first thing I noticed when I put on this record is the powerful sound and good production. Both the songs and lyrics are interesting and keep me interested during the whole record. Another nice surprise was the nicely done Atari cover, quite unexpected but a good tribute to that band. I like the lay out of the record for both the cd and the 7", but the feeling that the initial idea has been borrowed from The Distance 7" crossed my mind. I don't know if they know that record, but it looks almost identical. If you like any of the bands I referred too early, you definitely should check out this release.
