Current mood: bitchy Category: News and Politics
Before I get into the "how long?" issue, there's something else I need to say. After reading so many comments on blog posts and news items over the last several days, I feel like that kid in Gary Larson's The Far Side comic.

From all that reading, here are three things that really bother me: (1) What appears to be unconditional support for Hamas by people who consider themselves socialists or communists, when Hamas is one of the most reactionary movements on the face of the planet. (2) The use by some supporters of Israel of the words "liberal" and "left" as adjectives for any and all peace-minded people. (3) The use by some supporters of the Palestinians of the words "right-wing" and "fascist" as adjectives for any and all who believe in Israel's right to exist and to defend itself.
Having gotten that out of my system, on to the question of "how long?":
When I have asked supporters of the Palestinian cause, "How long after people have been dispossessed of their land do they retain rights to that land?", the answer invariably is: "Forever."
There was a Jewish commonwealth in that land centuries before Jesus, and even more centuries before Muhammed. It was a Jewish commonwealth that first made the region a single geographic, political, and economic entity. Later the Jews -- as a people -- were driven from that land.
Hello? Forever isn't over yet . . .
