"Geltman's comfortable playing full-tilt rock as well as introspective ballads. She's the whole package." -Billboard

"Geltman deploys elements of rock, folk, country and punk with panache...tying them altogether with well-honed hooks" -The Boston Herald

Laurie Geltman currently fronts LA-based band LAYNE, teaches guitar, bass and rock and roll workshops and is pitching songs to TV and Film. As a songwriter with three critically-acclaimed solo albums under her belt (and now LAYNE's new EP Up From Down) Geltman's worldly-wise vision of love, death, faith and friendship results in songs that mix "resignation with defiance and a cool-eyed observational power." [Boston Phoenix]. Respected for being "a top-flight guitarist" and a versatile singer/songwriter, it is Geltman's songwriting that showcases her diversity the most, and parallels her exploration of most musical genres.

Before spreading her music nationally and then moving to Los Angeles, Laurie Geltman established herself in the vibrant Boston music scene where she was known for electrifying performances with her band as lead singer, songwriter and guitarist. Laurie began playing guitar and writing songs at age seven. After graduating from Berklee College of Music as a film score major, her love of songwriting and performing took center stage. A Boston Music Award winner for Outstanding Female Vocalist (1998), Geltman garnered a total of seven nominations in four different BMA categories. In a town crowded with promising singer-songwriters, she won the Levi Strauss Lilith Fair Emerging Talent Search, earning her the Boston spot on the 1998 Lilith Fair tour.

She was signed to Eastern Front Records/Koch Int'l and began touring across the country following the release of her highly praised debut CD No Power Steering which featured guest vocalist Patty Griffin. The CD garnered extensive airplay and Geltman received positive reviews from around the country including Billboard, Album Network and CMJ. Her song, "Ghost in the House", appeared on the Respond CD, a compilation put together by a veritable who's-who of Boston's best singer-songwriters to benefit Respond Inc., a Boston domestic violence shelter. The editor of Billboard Magazine named Respond the number one CD of 1999.

Geltman's traveled to over 30 states (including Alaska), performed in such venerable clubs as CBGB's in NYC, The Bluebird in Nashville, Schuba's in Chicago and once at a palace in Kathmandu, Nepal. While touring with her full band, Geltman impressed audiences with her command of the stage, her raw lead guitar playing and passionate, heartfelt vocals, but she is equally adept at moving an audience on her own in an acoustic setting. She's shared the stage with such acts as Joe Cocker, Sarah Mclachlan, Morphine, Aimee Mann, Susan Tedeschi, Emmylou Harris, Luscious Jackson,
Jonatha Brooke, Chris Whitley, Eric Burdon, Old 97's, Rick Danko, Leon Russell, Patty Griffin, Marshall Crenshaw, Derek Trucks Band, Letters To Cleo and many more.

Shortly after settling into LA, Geltman got back in the studio to record a
six-song rock/pop EP/CD with Letters To Cleo's Michael Eisenstein producing. Recorded with such notable players as drummer Fred Eltringham (Dixie Chicks, The Wallflowers), and LTC's lead singer Kay Hanley and Michelle Lewis lending some backing vocals, Up From Down includes the song "MIlwaukee" chosen as a finalist in the 2006 International Songwriting Competition.
