Greetings!
The 1980's and early 1990's was a time where
Dancehall DJ's got a lot of attention for the depth
of their lyrical span. If a DJ didn't have the right
lyrics, fans would quickly dismiss them, ending
their career.
One artist who consistently delivered lyrically
is the one and only Papa San! Born in Spanish
Town, Jamaica, Papa San's musical career began
in 1978. He has recorded major hits including
"Strange" on the M16 Riddim, "Style and Fashion"
on the Duck Dance riddim and "Legal Rights"
with Lady G.
Working with several of the best producers, San
was never afraid to take chances such as his
performance on the Sly & Robbie produced chune
"Maddy Maddy Cry" which heard San imitate a
man crying over his woman who just left him!
On the flip side, fans couldn't help but to fall in
love with the Papa after hearing him on the chune
"Joy In The Morning" with Freddie McGregor!
Hear lyrics: "I am happy to be your lova / fih
every likkle secon / every minute every hour /
girl mih love strong like a military powa / so let's
make love and go unda dih showa...." Kaboom!

lane with with the one and only Papa San here:
Fast Facts: Papa San's brother is famed DJ
Dirtsman. In 1997, he converted to Christianity,
and is said to be the only artist who has performed
on Sting every year since the beginning!
DJ Note: For DJ's who back artists when they
perform without a band, an excellent example
of how to mix down a DJ properly is at the end
of the chune "Pick Yu Choice." Let me know if
you agree! :)
