Current mood:  artistic
As readers of the Pollux blogs have noted, we have been hard at work on a rock opus... nay... a magnum rock opus ( because it's long) and we've have a looming concern about it's impending release:

To quote Carey, "Uh, this record sounds awesome, but how the f*ck are we going to pull it off live?"
.

While one could argue that it's better to be a band with a good record that has to figure out how to pull off playing it, than having all the resources in the world, and having a record like, say, "Chinese Democracy"... well, it didn't make us sleep any easier.  We've spent the last year trying to stretch the sonic limits of the instruments we play, but we generally only play one at a time and we wanted to stear away from using sequenced parts because it's our feeling that nothing sucks the feel out of a live show like a recorded keyboard/guitar part.

[Caveat: Unless that keyboard part is "The Final Countdown".  In which case, it is awesome.  Duh.]

With that in mind, we put our heads together and made a dream list of the things we'd look for in another pair of hands.  That list was daunting; things like "a-list player", "cameleon of virtuostic musicality" and "glistening, rock-hard abs" all neared the top of the list.

What was not surprising was that Kevin knew *that* guy.

With that in mind, we would like to extend a warm, Pollux welcome to Mr. Matthew Charles Heulitt, into our inner-rock-sanctum.

Matt, to those that don't know, is a first-call, straight up killer that, while we were in Europe last year, slugging it out in little venues was touring and sat in with the likes of Santana.

With arguably either our faith or our bloated egos convincing us that he'd actually *want* to do this, Kevin gave him a record.  And given license to tear at all that ripe, wide-open musical space... he immediately jumped in with both feet.

Since having Matt aboard, things that we'd previously only mused about (Lush harmonies, searing leads, haunting tonal colorations, chisled, rippling good looks) are now all there...

The sound, to steal from Palaniuk, "...monsterous isn't the right word, but it's the first word that comes to mind".

In short:  this month was already historic... and then Obama won.

Best,

Daniel

Thank you for that very warm welcome into your inner-rock-sanctum. Should I bring a flashlight?
