I wrote this as part of my application to work for Barack's campaign. I think it's cool.

To Whom It May Concern:

My great desire is to allow my time and energy to be spent on reaching out to all those Americans, whether they be black, white, Latino,
Latina, or otherwise, male or female, and excite them with the hope and promise Barack Obama brings to this nation and to this world.

Our time has to be now, for it is long overdue. Our time has to be now, because no one is free while others are suffering, and our time has to be now because our planet is dying, in every way possible.  I say "our time" because the beauty of Barack Obama's vision and mission lies in the unity of all and in the destruction of everything which creates division. It is a necessary vision, and a necessary mission, and I have always known that if I am to be a part of such a mission, I must see myself as no more white as I am African American, Latina, or otherwise.

As a Caucasian female, my childhood was marked by my passion and admiration for the work of leaders such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  When I was twelve years old I sat in the pews of his church in Atlanta, Georgia, not too far from my actual birthplace, and in that moment the struggle for equality and justice was born within me.  When I hesitated to move from my seat in that pew upon a call from my father, he asked me why, and I responded with "this is what I want to be. This is who I want to be."

I have stood with Americans, and I have stood with the world. I have stood as an American, and I have stood as a member of the human race. I have stood with the poor, the workers and immigrants, the maquiladora workers in Tijuana, Mexico, and with those fighting for justice in the African AIDS epidemic.  I have stood with the protectors of the Earth. I have stood with politicians, businessmen, and the upper class. I have stood for truth, unity, and love.

Now, I am standing with Barack and all of his supporters, because I know that his vision is the only one which will achieve what other great leaders such as John Edwards wish to accomplish. What is needed is beyond a political, economic, and social solution. It is also a spiritual one. As a devout Christian, I can confidently say that Barack Obama is the one Christian running for office who most understands what it means to be a true Christian.  In love and respect for all people, Barack is simultaneously upholding religious freedom in a very powerful way.

I would like to ask you today to allow me to be able to help transform this nation and this world into what reflects its true humanity, and away from what is a false vision and a false hope.

With love,

Lisa Nicole Lenger
