You know, I was probably due for a fuck up. That's the benefit of being a DJ who does live mixing and sound creation, or using a computer and running 10 tracks at once, no one notices too much if you hit the wrong button because you have a backup sound running - but I don't DJ like that... on the scale of:
SELECTOR ------------------------------ SUPERSTAR BEAT MATCHING DJ
I'd say I land about here:
SELECTOR --|--------------------------- SUPERSTAR BEAT MATCHING DJ
The result of being the mildly proficient DJ artist that I am and running only one live track at a time is that when I accidentally hit the eject button on the CD player that's presently playing Soft Cell's "Sex Dwarf" to 650+ people and there's many seconds of silence... people tend to notice. The seconds stretch to hours and I think I was paralyzed with fear while I waited for the digital turntable to load the CD back in and pick up from where it left off. There were people taking pictures there all night, namely The Rocky Mountain News (we'll be in it on Friday) and Danny and Nina (google it) and I can't express to you how thankful I am that no one was taking a picture of my dumb ass during those silent moments... I'd imagine it looked sort of like GW sitting in the classroom on 9/11 except with more surprise because I didn't have government agencies informing me that a fuck up was imminent.
So, there's my 3 or 4 seconds of horror surrounded by a shit hot night. My God it's great to see Denver haunting the streets again. And not only are you showing up, you're really making a happening of it... I don't know that we've ever had crowds in the winter that have been as enthusiastic.
This Friday, Apples In Stereo listening party with guest DJ John Hill of the Apples. It's a big deal for us.... hope it's a big deal for you.
