Left 8 o’clock on Friday mornin. Not too bad of a drive with Luis and Sparky along. Got to Austin about midnight. The room we got had only one bed and hardwood floors (!?), so Big Lou and I had to sleep in the bed together. Sparky was smart and brought an inflatable bed. Biscuits and gravy the next mornin then we went and picked my Little Buddy A.J. Bikini’s Bar and Grill was the first show. A.J. hadn’t played with us in like 7 years but we played that set with no practice and it was like he never left. Hoodrats were after us, cool band, awesome drummer. Merkaba was next. Kind of a weird vibe, reminded me of Phoenix. Great stage though, really great sound and light guys. Made us feel like rockstars. Boomerz was the last of that day.Fun crowd, played with some awesome bands, Little Morts and of course the mighty, mighty Thunderosa. Got to hang with an old friend Paul too. That was cool.
Saturday mornin we tried to go to the Tamale House but it’s closed on Sunday’s. Bummer. Walked around downtown. Went to Headhunter’s later that afternoon saw Amber Lucille, kick-ass new band. Great guitar tones. We had a fun time playin. I think it was the best set of the weekend. A.J. was stompin, Sparky was thumpin. Got to hang out with lot’s of friends.
Again we wouldn’t have been able to do it if it weren’t for the help of good friends. Thank you Amber and Trent, thank you Brandon and of course thanks to A.J. and my big brother Spark. Can’t wait till next year.
