So considering all the recent interest from fellow Whedonites in my song "Joss
Whedon (Is My Master Now)," I thought maybe you'd be interested
to know some of the details surrounding it's creation...
I'd been working on the album that was to become 'Uke-a-holics
Unanimous' on and off for a year or two, and decided while finishing it up that
I'd like to add a couple more songs. I re-recorded two older songs I
had, an Oliver Stone/Doors movie parody called "Ride The Snake," and a
song about sexual orientation called "Switch Hitter." There were also a
couple of newly written songs I wanted to incorporate, "Let's Go!
(Voltron Force!)" and "Joss Whedon (Is My Master Now)."
The latter was the last song to be written and recorded for the album.
I had a lot of lyrical ideas for it, but with my deadline looming, I
worked it up very quickly. I did two different versions of the chorus (a
"clean" one and a "dirty" one), but when mixing the track I thought I
had sung the clean version better, so that's the one that went on the
album.
After a few months of playing the song live, I had stumbled onto some
alternate lyrical ideas that I liked a little better than the released
version. Rather than re-recording the song from scratch, I decided to
overdub the new vocals onto particular sections of the original, and I
also opted to redo the "dirty choruses," because - let's face it -
swearing is funny. ;)
My original plan in re-doing portions of this song were to include it
on an EP entitled 'What Would Joss Do?' (WWJD for short). I had a couple of other songs involving the Joss series that I wanted to use for this as well... But then I ended up participating in this thing called the RPM Challenge, in which
an artist records an entire album in the month of February. So instead
of releasing the EP, I decided I'd write and record another full-length
album, which became 'Keep On Rockin' In The Flea World.'
With all the renewed interest in this song and several requests for the Myspace version, I've made the decision to add the "dirty"/Myspace version of JWIMMN onto the end of all future editions of the new album as an unlisted track. Hopefully this will be a reasonable solution for those wanting the Myspace version and/or both versions of the track.
RAWK on!

P.S. Over the past few weeks, I've moved across the U.S. from Indiana to California. I'm now just a few hours from good ol' Sunnydale ;) Anyway, for any fellow Whedonites in the area that want to drop me a line, I'll look forward to hearing from you.
