Greased Pig Contest
7:30 PM Sunday August 20
Back behind the 4H booth is a dance pavilion where they were cranking up the polka music and beginning to dance and behind that was a small arena with a clay base, there was a stage and a stock trailer and a pen made out of big hay bales., and at the opposite iend of the hay bale pen was a pen made of hog panels and T posts. In the middle of the hay bales was a half whiskey barrel like they sell for planters at WalMart.
They had over twenty teams of four persons each. It costs $5 to enter, and everything going to the winners, we think they paid three places in the men women and coed divisions.
Admission was being charged at the gate for this event and people who had their dogs and pups at the fair on leashes were being turned away because of the lack of room in the stands. I got there early and took a before picture of the ladies:

Anything Goes
They had watered the arena down until it was soaked and water was running out from under the bales. They called the first team and then put a hog in the pen and they had 2 minutes to pick the hog up and put him on top of the barrel. They had as many hogs as they did teams. They had officials so when they got the hog there they would signal touchdown and the timer would stop the watch. The fastest time wins.
All this time polka music is very loud right behind the grandstand, and beer is plentiful in the stands.
I positioned myself to get a good shot of the action, and several teams into the competition a little grey haired lady came and asked if she could get in front of me so that she could take a picture- Thats my daughter in law- were so proud of her- I am going to take these pictures and send them around to everyone on the internet! I helped her up onto the concrete wall outside the arena where she could get a good shot!
Next up was Erins team, Anything Goes.

They failed to get their hog on the barrel in the allotted time but they sure had fun!
