and the Flatliners defeat Hard Knox Rollergirls 97-75
On July 11, 2009, Bloomington’s own Bleeding Heartland Roller Girls (BHRG) held the second game of their home season with a double-header at the Bloomington Sportsplex. The Code Blue Assassins opened the evening with an exciting bout against the Black-N-Bluegrass Rollergirls from Kentucky. The teams duked it out, neck in neck the whole bout. Code Blue Assassins Betty Wreckognize and Charmed N Dangerous showed their versatility, playing both as jammers and as blockers, with the utmost skill and toughness. Violet Ouburst shined as a jammer, busting through the pack and blowing past the competition. The Code Blue Assassins, with their star veterans and skilled rookies, finished with a lead of 7 points, for a final score of 69-62.
The Flatliners and the Hard Knox Rollergirls from Knoxville, TN closed the evening with a nail-biting bout. The Flatliners faced intense competition from Hard Knox. Felanie Charges, playing in her first bout since acting as a Flatliners coach, joined Kaka Kaliente and Terror d’Bits as part of jamming crew for this bout. Stand-out Hard Knox jammers Goblynn and Drop Dead…Gorgeous were pitted against a talented Flatliners crew of jammers and an exquisitely skilled pack. Most jams earned each team only 4-5 points, and some jams were called off before either team had a chance to score. At half-time, the teams were tied at 46-46. The second half of the bout continued in a similar manner, with both teams battling it out to establish and hold the lead. The Flatliners kept up excellent teamwork, forming solid walls and helping their jammers through. Sagiterrorist, playing in her final bout, acted as a pivotal part of the pack, helping to keep control of the front line. With 1 minute left on the clock and a close score, Kaka Kaliente and Goblynn stepped up to the jam line for the final jam. In an electrifying series of events, Goblynn incurred a penalty and was sent to the box, and Kaka Kaliente and the Flatliners finished out the jam for a win. After stepping up against the talented and competitive Hard Knox Rollergirls, the Flatliners closed the evening with their 4th straight win, with a final score of 97-75.
BHRG’s next bout is on Saturday, July 25 against Demolition City in Evansville, IN. Their next home bout is Saturday, August 15th, with the first home team (Farm Fatales/Slaughter Scouts) bout of the season.
