Well, this was certainly an eventful month. I'll give it that.
Star Trek: Mere Anarchy - the trade paperback collection of the 6-part e-Book miniseries started hitting store shelves a couple of weeks ago. Reviews are popping up here and there, mostly from folks who missed the series the first time around when it was in e-Book format. Welcome to the party, y'all!
Open Secrets - The fourth
Star Trek: Vanguard book. I returned my fixes/changes to the first-pass pages to my editor on January 19th. The next time I see the thing, it'll be a real book! It's still on track for publication in May, which means it should start popping up in stores the last week or so of this month. My, where does the time go?
Full-Throttle Space Tales #3: Space Grunts - Anthology editing project. Things started moving very fast on this just over the past few days. Contracts have gone out to the authors, and as I write this I'm tapping my fingers and waiting on page proofs which I also can send out to the authors for their final review. I hope to post a list of those contributors, their story titles, and cover art soon. In addition to editing the anthology, I also have a story of my own in the line-up: "A Fresh Perspective." The publisher is still hoping to premiere advance reading copies of the book at the Starfest convention here in a few weeks. I'm keeping my fingers and various other things crossed.
"Pride" - novella for the forthcoming
Star Trek: Seven Deadly Sins anthology - We turned in our completed manuscript on February 27th, and we're now awaiting editorial feedback. The book's currently scheduled for publication in March 2010.
Article for
Star Trek Magazine - Moving ahead on this piece, which if my math is right will be for an issue due out in late summer/early fall. We've gotten some marching orders, and we're kicking around a few ideas. Stay tuned!
"Stayin' In Vegas, Part VII" - Sent this on February 17th to friend/writer/editor
Christopher Pimental, who's going to include it in his next issue of
Bad Things. The first issue went live on January 15th, and you can read the first six parts of this serial there. The plan is to keep feeding him new material as I fit it in with the other projects on my plate, which hopefully will coincide with when he needs new material for future
Bad Things updates. It's too much fun not to do it, as well as being a nice departure from the stuff I normally write. I think the next issue is due up April 15th, but don't quote me. I also finished Part VIII back on March 13th, so it's ready to go, too.
Tie-in project - I turned in an outline for this project on March 19th and quickly received some preliminary feedback. A more detailed discussion is still forthcoming, but first impressions are that the story will work. I guess we'll see what we'll see.
Counterstrike: The Last World War, Book II - I received a formal contract offer for the book on March 6th! The paperwork is in play, I have a due date for turning in the manuscript (August 3rd), and publication is tentatively scheduled for April 2010. Just this evening I banged out a few hundred words of the scene I decided to write first, and I'll add to that before I go to bed later tonight. And away we go!
Vampire novel(?) - I started screwing around with this idea a while back, as I wrote about
here. It's been tabled for now as I work on the stuff with actual deadlines, but it's still lurking in the back of my mind. Son of a bitch.
Young Adult SF book/possible series with Kevin - No idea yet when Kevin and I might might push forward with this. I dusted it off the other day for kicks, and made some notes where it could use a good tweaking here and there. Maybe we'll put it in front of somebody later this year.
And, as always, there are a few other things in the offing, in various stages of gestation/discussion, which I can't talk about just yet. More on those if/when it's appropriate.
One last thing: As I mentioned last month, Kevin has with artist Tom Patrick co-created for Hallmark
SuperDad and His Daring Dadventures, a gift book for kids to give to their dads so they can read it together. The comic art is awesome, and you can tell that Tom is a major geeky fan and heavily influenced by -- among other things -- the 1940s Fleischer
Superman cartoons. The stories are fun bits that could only come from a dad like Kevin. Look for this in your local Hallmark store(s) starting in May or so!
