you will probably only care about this if you are a mom.....

so i had a sad experience today. i was putting the girls in the car, to take kylie to school when i heard an upsetting noise. my neighbor, who is kinda new and i have never officially met, was SCREAMING at her kids. now most of the houses on our street are really close so that wouldn't be that weird but there happens to be an entire empty lot between this neighbor and i. after a couple minutes i could hear her little girl sobbing. it was AWFUL. it really made me think. i am a bit of a yeller, ok a lot of a yeller. i always feel so bad later and i don't mean to be. kids have a way of bringing it out in ya though! i have often thought before that the best medicine for the problem would probably be hearing a recording of myself doing it. let me tell you, that was close enough. the idea that i might ever sound like that, broke my heart! i am not casting judgement on this mom. she has two daughters almost the same ages as mine so i get it!! i just think every mom should have to hear it at some point. i mean we have all seen someone yell at their kid in public and thought 'geez what a rotten  mom' but this was different. she didn't realize that anyone could hear her. that makes all the difference. anyway you will probably only care about this if you are a mom. so those that are...next time you start in on your little one, think about this. i know i will!!!

I'm with you on this girl.  I am a lot of a yeller as well.  Sometimes it feels like what I'm saying will get through to them better if they hear it super duper loud, but they can hear it when we say it to them too!  It really sucks cause you do feel like crap after you think about it, but it's nice to know I'm not alone in this boat. And this is kinda a wake up call cause I'm real close with my neighbors, hopefully they've never heard me! I'll pray for your heart to remember that day any time you get upset with those gorgoeus girls of yours!  Love you and miss you! Shell

Let me assure you that this is NOT a mom issue, but a parent issue. I'm guilty as well and I feel the same way. In fact, instead of hearing myself, I once SAW myself on a home video clip. What I saw made my stomach go into a big knot. It literally broke my heart to see myself get angry like that at my daughters. Talk about feeling rotten! And considering the way my voice has been known to travel, I have no doubts that most, if not all, of my neighbors have heard me at some point. So yeah, I can relate to your story 100%.

But I've seen you in action sweety and you have nothing to worry about! You and Jeff are both awesome parents and I'm proud of both of you. Good kids don't get that way by accident and your kids are great! All kids need a little "verbal motivation" from time to time. In fact, some of us even need it as adults sometimes - lol. Don't be so hard on yourself. Your kids are proof that you guys are doing a wonderful job.

So even though I'm not a mom, I certainly do care about that issue. I would like to think that all parents do. But then again, I'd like to think that I have a chance at winning the Lotto some day too....lol.
