4.) Sing a song of Pittsburgh: Searching for a 'Burgh-defining tune Sunday, December 04, 2005 By Monica Haynes, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Local singer/songwriter Gene Stovall of the band Eviction Notice believes Pittsburgh's theme song should be a mixture of different styles of music.
"A lot of Pittsburghers listen to hip hop, but the same amount of Pittsburghers listen to classic rock," he said. "For as shallow and small as Pittsburgh is, there's a lot of musical diversity here."
A Pittsburgh theme song, Mr. Stovall said, needs to encompass all of the musical genres represented in the city.
"I don't know of a writer who lives in Pittsburgh that could do that besides myself," he said. "I was actually working on a Pittsburgh theme song."
"It pretty much talks about the history, [former Mayor Richard] Caliguiri," said the 28-year-old Mount Washington resident. "That song in itself is a hip hop song because it has so much history in it."
