I Support a Single Payer Healthcare System
With that said, I am going to direct you in the direction of an article that will answer the question some of you are asking:
What is a Single Payer System [click it]? Before you ignore this I am going to make a very frank statement.
If by chance you read this article and act on it, you can truthfully say that if you become gravely ill and can not afford it and are forced into debt for the rest of you natural born life, that it is the Government's fault and that said government should be responsible for the well-being of its people (we are a "
Democracy", you know -- a government for the people, by the people).
However, if you ignore this, you are either stating that you accept the responsibility to keep yourself healthy and can afford to pay the incredible sums of money it can take to keep yourself alive; or you are a completely apathetic political asshole and can blame your misfortune on no one but yourself. Harsh? I said I was going to be frank.
A Single Payer System benefits everyone, but most specifically the middle class American. Yes, that is probably where you stand as a citizen. Middle class. Exciting isn't it? Because you are neither poor nor wealthy you receive little support. No tax cuts, and no Healthcare. Want to find out more? Click
here to visit pnhp.org (Physicians for a National Healthcare Program). Neither of our country's two main political parties supports this idea, though it has been proven successful in both Canada and France. However, the Green Party does. Of course this is a third party, but both sides of the current administration are too damn capitalist to make the necessary humanitarian efforts that need to be made. As citizens we owe it to ourselves to try and change authoritarian direction in which our government is going. If small groups of people can free slaves, gain women's suffrage, and demand civil rights why aren't we fighting for equal health coverage. We are Human beings. Living is a right, not a duty. We shouldn't have to pay independent corporations for our lives, while our government sits back and watches us grow frail and die.
