The final AIE session for the year 2006 was on December 17th when we did a "Romp in the Round at Santa Monica High School track. First, we began with some different kinds of walking and stepping down the lanes: side stepping, backwards, walking on the line, straddling the lanes, speed walking and skipping. Then we did some multi-sport drills: kicking a soccer ball, dribbling a basket ball, using a hockey stick, and also a tennis racquet. Then it was time for some field games - the "Romp" part of the day. Hopping in a burlap sack, balancing a book on the head, tossing water balloons, and carrying oranges under the chin. Sierra and Lorenzo won the relay, but it was close. The musical chairs session was done using big exercise balls and dyno-disks which are really tough stand on without losing your balance. Lastly, we did a different variation of "freeze tag" where the person who got tagged had to do exercises like jumping jacks or leg raises until they were untagged. It was pretty clear that the participants favorite part of the session was the free massages afterwards! Of course, the day would not have been complete without the awards session: "Slow & Steady Wins the Race" was a turtle, the "Ass Kicker Award" was a soccer ball, and the "Whoopie Award" which was given to the person who had the most fun was a whoopie cushion. Hope everyone comes back for the January sessions - and bring a friend! There's enough fun for everyone!
