Interview for 25MEN / RITUAL MAG
- The 25men is a wide project that involves several artists...what is
on the basis of this project? Why did you decide to create this great
ensemble?
....
No one created the ensemble; it evolved through some form of necessity as all worthwhile things do. The basis or ethos of 25men is to create music that makes the listener feel the way we feel, which actually translates better in a live context. We thought at first we where just creating it for ourselves but the law of entropy took over, so there it is.....
....
- How Is it to be considered as an evolution of all your previous
experiences and projects? Which are the main elements in common (and
differences) between them and 25men?....
.. ..
My involvement and thought processes are the main elements in common with everything I have done. Plus we have recycled sounds, riffs and whole tracks from The Performance, Gangwar, The MK Ultra, The Otherfolk, 4080peru and even some 25men tracks have been remixed to become elements in an entirely different tracks. Try to think of my back catalogue as a whole entity rather than different projects or bands. It is one long stream of words and music that become more refined as time passes.
....
- The Dancing Wu Li Masters is also the title of a Book by Gary Zukav:
could you tell me something about it? Which are the connections
between your album and the book?
<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]-->
<!--[endif]-->....
It is one of the first quantum physics books I read over 20 years ago. It is a good introduction to the subject and having read Fritjof Capra's 'Tao of Physics' some years earlier it was good to find another book that was comfortable to understand rather than confusing an already chaotic science - as so many science writers tend to do. It was responsible for furthering my interest in theoretical physics which logically lead to reading more philosophy and through Carl Jung to psychology, mysticism and a whole complex array of possibilities. ....
The relationship between the album and the book would lie in the intrinsic connection that exists between everything and the fact that things are not always what they appear to be. If you haven't yet, read it, then you'll understand the connections. 25men is the sound of quantum entanglement.....
.. ..
- In your myspace site you name several authors, artists and works as
influences...from Kafka to Peter Murphy, The Cabinet of Doctor
Caligari, Jack Kerouac, Mahatma Gandhi and many more...so 25men is
more than a musical project.......
.. ..
They are inspirations as opposed to direct influences although we can not deny that everyone listed has had some form of influence as they have been part of our lives and therefore hold a stronger personal connection than the common strings that hold us up. I'm curious as to why you chose the given examples.
As for it being more than a musical project, it's an amalgamation of thoughts and emotions inspired by those listed, expressed in musical form . Make of it what you will.....
- And also i found:
25men exist in a state of flux.
25men is not a band.
25men is a thing.
25men is a living, breathing, evolving organism.
25men face East.
25men does not exist.
25men is state of mind.
25men believe in something else.
It sounds like a Manifesto...the idea that through art is still
possible making a change, keeping in touch with our conscience...can
you tell me more about that?
<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]-->
<!--[endif]-->....
It's more of a MENifesto! We like ambiguity and the effect it has on other people, the not knowing or not fully understanding what is going on. We are led to believe we live in a world that is full of knowledge and facts – most of which we (collectively) know, most of which we don't as most is like history – revisionist bullshit. Ambiguity offers longevity to an idea as it becomes generally more difficult to define, therefore lends itself to a more personal interpretations. Things are what you want them to be.....
As Bob Dylan said 'a song won't change the world', but art can inspire the belief in something else other than the shallow existence most of us swim and drown in. Get in touch with your subconscious; it is much more interesting and revealing than the consciousness we are forced to accept.....
.. ..
- The Dancing Wu Li Masters has also a companion album: Hubris
confirms the vitality and the energy of 25men.......
.. ..
There is already enough material for a 3rd album and who knows, that may be enough. For then.....
