mike levesque here. i've been teaching drums for 15 years with many happy, successful students. i'm a working pro, not a practice pad jockey in a music store broom closet or a gigless academic and i'm looking for a few new students. there are a lot of drum teacher choices out here and i appreciate you checking out my little self-plug. i think i've got a unique take on this stuff and my students always have fun learning.
about me......
i've made records with david bowie, natalie imbruglia, candybutchers, and dozens of boston and providence independants like the montgomerys, juliana hatfield, ricky valente and sasquatch and the sickabillys. i've done literally thousands of gigs and have major label AND DIY touring experience. i've played on a number of advertising jingles for the baltimore orioles, NESN, the washington nationals and general motors. i've been featured in articles in spin, rolling stone, the boston globe and modern drummer.
i charge $40 per hour lesson at my place in providence and $100 for intensive 2 hour "house calls" in mass and ri. i'm open to any frequency of drum lessons that fits an individual's schedule and budget. with one 2 hour lesson i can load you up with enough stuff to practice for months!
if you like to practice and love music, i can make learning and improving on the kit a fun and rewarding experience. we will go at YOUR PACE and we'll work on what YOU WANT TO LEARN. no specific method, totally custom made to your drum needs. just enough dry technique stuff to get you started or to help you unlearn all those bad drum habits. from then on, all practical, all the time. we will focus on the stuff that makes other musicians turn around and smile at the drummer rather then the stereotypical "it's the drummers fault" nonsense.
soon you'll be the guy/girl that people WANT on the gig!
all styles and levels are welcome. from total, complete beginners to local rock royalty, i can help you become a better musician. you AND your band will simply sound better. whether your goal is to to be a drum shredder or a first call studio superstar, i'd love to be your drum teacher.
i'll teach you how to get and keep the good gigs and how to deal with the bad ones. you will NOT get this stuff in mom and pop music stores OR berklee....i should know, i'm a dropout!
STUDENT TESTIMONIALS
"Taking lessons from Mike has been the best thing for my playing since
discovering punk rock and hardcore music. His teaching style is
simply the best because he doesn't force all sorts of theory on you.
Mike will evaluate your style/influences along with your ability and
then take your playing to places unthinkable. His lessons are the
coolest because there is no instructor/student vibe. Its about
drummers hanging out, talking music and working to get your shit
sounding better. Take it from me, as someone who has studied with
lots of pros, you have to study with Mike. If you want to get the
most of your ability, don't deny yourself this opportunity. Get in
touch with Mike Levesque today!"
Mike "Cap'n" Mahoney" (formerly of Blood for Blood)
"Mike Levesque has what every drummer needs to aspire to. After playing
professionally for several years myself, I have come to realize that the
most important thing a drummer can be is solid, that is, play solid beats
and have rock steady time. Mike is the master of this and any up and coming
drummer should not hesitate taking lessons with him. Mike practices what he
preaches; this is evident by seeing him play in person or by taking a listen
to his extensive resume. What a lot of young drummers often times have
difficulty grasping is that the simpler, more subtle drummers are the ones
that get the call back, time after time. Mike knows this through experience
because he is that guy. If you aspire to this you should give him a call."
Dan Berglund.(adam ezra group)
"Imagine taking a 2-hour golf lesson with Tiger Woods, where a real pro
gives you pointers you can use right away. That's exactly what Mike
can do for your drumming. In just one session he loaded me up with
lots of useful ideas for playing live and in the studio. I could walk
into a studio session right now and feel twice as confident as before.
If you are an experienced drummer, make the time to work with Mike."
