Well I am not planning on producing any garbage today, and my bottle of wine will be secured firmly in my purse, but I guess things are getting the shutdown nonetheless.
Team Anti-Garbage, aka Darrelle London and I will be running our litter-free cupcake ladden show at the Rivoli tonight, 8pm as planned. I didn't make the cupcakes as I can barely make a rhyming cuplet, but if you give me a wink I can and will retract a straw from my purse that connects to the bottle.
I put up a life and times of R.D. on my myspace which I will not touch! god help me, until the new tunes come out. I thought respects should be paid to the many talented people that have traded their time and brains for money or grapes:
Be My & Goodday we're the co-creation of Matt Montour, an extremely talented and technosavy boy from the burrows of East Hamilton. A former Vapor Music employee, he's now slugging for Pirate Music Licensing and making beautiful music every day under the name "SOUNDTRACK DIVISION". Check it: http://www.myspace.com/thesoundtrackdivision
"Sleeptalking" was the handicraft of Joel Stouffer (Draggonette drummer is one of the many hats he throws into the air) and Paul Mathew (bassist for Hidden Cameras, Jill Barber and many other acts that make me want to believe in God). We put together this tune and another called "Darien" this winter at Adam King's studio. Paul is an amazing singer-songwriter. Catch a show: http://www.myspace.com/thelownotes
"So Tired" is the now ancient work of Daniel Furster, a co-Cawthra Park Highschool attendee. Sessions always included wine and dark chocolate. Dan convinced me to start playing again after a couple years in a substance coma at McMaster University. He is talented beyond his time: http://www.myspace.com/djfjf
"Good Pain" and "Queen Elizabeth" were quickie live of the floor recordings at Tim Oxford's Oxford Sound studio. Tim is the wildly solid drummer in Arkells and has the best and cleanest hair in Arkells (http://www.myspace.com/arkells). He's also really amazing at saying.. "well, I liked the last one better, but this one has it's own special charm". His studio is amazing and it get's extra points for being on a farm.
"Dreams Of Me" was recorded with Bill Bell (http://www.myspace.com/bellproductions) with Kevin Fox on cello. Despite this being one of the most intimidating musical experiences of my young life, I learned a lot about what it means when seasoned musicians sway and make weird noises while producing beautiful sounds. (kevinfox.ca)
"Stickin' In" (and "Be My") were recorded in my home studio, where I have Logic, Reason, an Apogee Duet and a lamp that looks like a sun with sunglasses glued to where the suns' eyes would be.
It is dangerous to say this in Canada, but I am looking forward to coat weather because of a recording project with Rob Szabo this fall and a mini-campus tour.
And in the world of Swedish pop star Robyn: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypQtJ8z6q5o. I would look like a linebacker in that gold number, and my only thug affiliation is my Dad, but a girl can still dream...
Happy Canada Day!
