Hi guys:

On Saturday, April 25th, I’m teaming up with Kevin Rose (http://twitter.com/kevinrose) to support World Malaria Day.  On World Malaria Day, we plan to rally the Twitter community to Tweet in support of Malaria prevention and treatment, by asking our followers to go to the Malaria No More (http://www.malarianomore.org/) Web site to learn about how to help end malaria deaths in Africa.

Supporting World Malaria Day on Twitter is designed to be very simple.  Our goal is to secure participation from the Twitter community, to Tweet the following message on Saturday, April 25, 2009:

Every 30 seconds a child dies from Malaria. Nets save lives. Support World Malaria Day = https://give.malarianomore.org/SSLPage.aspx?pid=356&srcid=246 RT

By way of background, Malaria No More is determined to end malaria deaths in Africa.  Malaria No More uses breakthrough communications, global advocacy and smart investments to advance the goals of providing universal access to malaria interventions by the end of 2010 and ending deaths by 2015.  Every 30 seconds – the time it takes to send and receive a Tweet – a child dies from malaria, but a simple mosquito net can save lives.

Please join us on April 25th in raising awareness of malaria prevention by Tweeting on Twitter in support of World Malaria Day.

Total facade! Mosquitos cannot shoot blood out of their proboscis. The proboscis is only used for feeding, so the disease must be spreading through the unclean water found in many third world countries, where infected mosquitos lay their eggs. Infected mosquitos pass malaria onto their young through the eggs laid in sitting water. A clean water system would probably rid the world of malaria.

Malaria is a vector-borne infectious disease. This means it is produced in the body, mosquitoes and other animals have gotten the disease from us. The stereotype is that malaria is in third world countries and that clean water will do the trick. It is a disease that is over 50,000 years old and may have been in all of our existance. Sickle Sell Disease may be linked as to why it occurs higher in certain areas and they are studying that. The problem is getting rid of the mosquitoes and they haven't even found that method to work well just in some areas. So clean water is a problem in another way, stagnant water would be the term to use.

It seems pretty impossible for the sporozoites that migrate through the mosquito's body to mix into the salivary glands. A humans blood does not mix into it's own salivary glands, why should a mosquitos?

"When a mosquito bites, it injects saliva through one channel. The saliva functions as a lubricant to help the mosquito feed easier. The blood it sucks as a meal flows in a completely separate channel and only in one direction: toward the mosquito. So, it's biologically unlikely for infected blood to be spread to another person." - http://hepatitis.about.com/od/prevention/a/mosquitoes.htm

Hmm I know that when a mosquito bites into a human flesh, she releases some saliva and in her saliva there is protein, BUT I wonder how much research has seriously been done on this to detect whether or not the saliva is truly transmitting the disease or if it is impossible to spread the disease through saliva?

I joined Twitter because of this post. Twitter seems possibly addicting. I hope if I ever graduate and become a photographer before I'm grey that I can bring some awareness to this cause, as well as many others.

Dear Ashton,..My name is Samantha Barry and I am a senior in high school. Once your a senior you have to do a senior project. You do something you love or help people. For mine I am having a fashion show which is going to be 10 dollars to get into and all the money I make is going to Nothing but Nets. I really really love helping people who need it the most. I've always wanted to go to Africa, but I cant afford it so if I cant help them their why not help them in my hometown. Some people are making tables, coaching soccor teams or making a garden. I've always wanted to do this as my project. I want help the people that need it the most...I read in the newspaper today that you are going to be donating nets from twitter. I thinks it awesome that you will be doing this. ..I wanted to let you know that I chose to do this for the people and not myself. I chose the date because I knew that is was the national malaria day...My senior project page is: myspace.com/seniorprojectfashionshow....

It's good to see a star putting out attention into worthy causes, and trying to help make any little bit of difference in this messed-up reality we call life. ....The truth of our existence is always wrapped around compassion for one another. It's relieving to know that you're not completely blinded by superstardom; and that you are in fact, pretty grounded after all, considering your very superficial surroundings. Kudos!
