YFU students have done everything from bake sales to requesting donations from businesses. With a little extra thought and creativity, you can start fundraising and become closer to studying in another country."My name is Martha Elk and I live in Bar Harbor, Maine. When I decided that I wanted to go to Japan for six months, I also knew that I would have to raise the money myself. So, I took advantage of the fact that my town's main income is tourism and used that to my benefit. One of my many fundraising ideas was to organize a bottle drive with several of the town's restaurants. The restaurants were happy to oblige. Once or twice a week I would stop by and pick up the bottles that had collected and exchange them at local redemption centers for money.
