Thinking of studying abroad sometime next year but need some extra funding? Now is the time to think about saving up some extra money. Don't know how? Try fundraising! YFU students have done everything from bake sales to requesting donations from businesses. With a little extra thought and creativity, you can start fundraising and become closer to studying in another country.

"My name is Martha Elk and I live in Bar Harbor, Maine. When I decided that I wanted to go to Japan for six months, I also knew that I would have to raise the money myself. So, I took advantage of the fact that my town's main income is tourism and used that to my benefit. One of my many fundraising ideas was to organize a bottle drive with several of the town's restaurants. The restaurants were happy to oblige. Once or twice a week I would stop by and pick up the bottles that had collected and exchange them at local redemption centers for money. It helped me raise a good chunk of my money without taking up too much of my time."

For more ideas, check out the Fundraising Guidelines. You can also call 1-800- TEENAGE to speak with an Admissions Counselor who will gladly brainstorm ideas with you to help you reach your goal!
