Current mood: drained
Hello again drunks. It's Lee. Just writing a quick little blog about last Friday's show at Liquor Sweets in Milwaukee. This was our debut show at Liquor Sweets so I wanted to bring a few friends along. The show was set to be a party with a line-up containing Tattooed Bruise, Beerfish and Mad Laughter you knew you were gonna have a good time as soon as you walked in the door. We loaded in around 6 p.m. in and it was still 85 degrees outside. Our roadies and photographer couldn't make it to this show ( I assume they were all at Pride Fest) so, we had some work to do. After loading (and sweating), we set up our gear and got aquainted with the new venue. For those of you who may not have been to this bar yet, make it down here. It's a great venue with plenty of room and great atmosphere. Tattooed Bruise was the first band up for the night and if you have ever seen these guys before you'll know they are far from your typical opening band. They are talented and energetic musicians who normally play headlining spots at their own shows (We've exchanged opening / headling spots with these guys for years). So once I confirmed them on the bill, I knew we would be starting off on the right foot. They've recently gone through some line-up changes and added a new singer and drummer. The last show we played with them was at Yester Years and at that time, the singer was a little sick so, I didn't really get a chance to hear his true talent. Friday though, he was right on. Good crowd interaction, good sound and good stage prescence. A very tight performance from the whole band. They pounded through their set and really got the crowd in to their show. Opening a show is difficult because you have to take people from mellow to hyped in a short period of time, This was no problem for the Tattooed Bruise crew and I thank them again for playing the show with us. Make sure you stop by their MySpace page and show them some love. Next up was the band Beerfish. These guys have played a few shows with us in the past and because of their energetic sound and style, I wanted them there on Friday too. There was a little delay in the tear-down and set-up so Beerfish started a little late. Not a problem though, they picked up right where Tattooed Bruise left off. They took the crowd and kept them going from their first song to their last. I had a couple people ask about them before they started because they didn't know too much about them. I told them to watch the show and they'd be impressed. And they were. A wide selection of cover material that had a little something for everyone was their secret for success. Keep on eye on these guys in the future I expect bigger and better things for them also. Finally, Mad Laughter hit the stage around midnight. The stage seemed to have been made for a Mad Laughter show. Plenty of room to move, areas to duck out of sight to spot light other members and a good view of the fans in attendance. Sometimes stage lights don't allow the band to see who is standing right in front of you. If you can't see the crowd, you can't interact with them and that doesn't make for a good show. The crowd was a little light for a typical Mad Laughter show but those that stayed made sure they were part of the action. Right up front yelling for their favorite songs and buying us shots when they could. We got alot of people wanting to hear our newest original "Crushed To Dust" we've only played it live twice but it seems to be a crowd favorite already. Mike from the band Liquid Steele even climbed up on the stage so he could sing "Indians" with us. How's that for crowd interaction! Thanks for the help Mike. We ripped through our set and got great response from everything we played. Because it was our debut show, we added two songs to our Liquor Sweets setlist "Barracuda" by Heart and "Gods Of Wrath" by Metal Church. Both songs were sung by our friend Heather. She walked up on the stage and was instantly embraced by the Mad Laughter fans. She didn't get to sing a note and already she the crowd going crazy. Impressive! She worked the crowd like a true professional and gave everyone in attendance a chance to see the true versatility of the band. When the idea of adding these song to the set list was brought up in practice I said, why not. Only Mad Laughter can pull something off like this. (I'd like to think we pulled it off nicely). Overall, it was a good show. The crowd was treated to a great mix of music by three of Milwaukee's best bands at a great venue. Thanks to Ian at Liquor Sweets for the show. The in-house sound and lights were terrific. Your sound engineer was very professional also. Thanks again to Tattooed Bruise, Beerfish and all the drunks in attendance for being part of the evening.
Stay Drunk, -Lee-
P.S. Our photographer was unavailable to attend this show so, if anyone has any pictures from this show send them in! I'll be sure to post them. Thanks.
