Currently in a lovely hotel room in Toronto, room 723 to be exact, which overlooks a parking lot and some low-level buildings, including a Chinese restaurant and a Falafel shop. We arrived this afternoon after a colorful sojourn at the Rothbury Festival. Colorful, I say, because it involved 35,000 mainly Gen-Y hippies, the sort who undoubtedly drove their parents' SUV's out to the farm before dropping some trust-fund acid and dancing around with surprising self-consciousness. Colorful, I also say, ironically because I did not see a single non-white person in the audience. At least, three fantastic, non-white people comprising the Taj Mahal trio did perform before us. I think they safely had more soul than the entire audience.
Now that I've gotten all of that off of my chest, I should say that I'm having a lovely time playing music in duo with Beth. We're mixing up about 25 songs from her catalog and the shows have been really nice. The Boston Globe displayed lovely syntax in calling me "stunning." And Spin Magazine featured a short review and some nice photos.
This concludes my brief self-promotional journey. Catch you all next time.
