Dear X,
We here at the Department of Network Performance do indeed believe that your site, is an excellent example of the type of performances we are looking for .. in spirit. Our concern now is form: Could you construct a Myspace page that functions exclusively as both a documentary & active template toward encouraging others to do the same performance? A central issue that we are concerned with here at the Department is how to move away from the self or corporate, social-networking, promotional aspects of the Myspace form and instead give the form over to some sort of network performative gesture. I hesitate to use the word interactive, but instead might employ the notion of ..active media space.. whereby I mean exchanges in the currency of art & cultural might be nurtured across the network. How could the form itself be an active space that points toward an ongoing work in process; a network performance unto itself like an open-ended series or other works yet to be created that insist on participatory, web-based input-- instead of an informational sites of artists works or in effect "dead-end" net.locals? How can the site exist as both documentary & performance? Could there be such a thing as performing the document?
Your help and input in these matters is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely, Prof. C. Peppermint The Department of Network Performance
