JFP UNIVERSITY
I have been on the grind yall! I'm learning new skills, moving my body, and taking my game to the next level. Currently, I'm taking hip hop dance classes at Ography Dance Studio with Chopper. Chopper has choreographed for Ginuwine, Missy Elliott, and graced the big screen in Idlewild and You Got Served, and recently he performed on Dancing with the Stars. He is a true light, with contagious energy, and he is oh so fresh!
Next up is gym class, so I'm back in the boxing ring at Fortune Gym. I'm training with Justin Fortune, an Australian born fighter who fought professionally for over 20 years, including a World Championship fight against Lennox Lewis. He also trained boxing greats like Mike Tyson, Manny Pacquaio and soon-to-be Julie "Pop Pop Pop" Potter. The gym is a cinderblock building with that old school vibe: we push wheel barrels and flip tires, I love it! Women's boxing should be making its Olympic debut in London in 2012 so I need to be ready.
Now, to help this swift spitta' breathe I'm taking voice lessons with Teri Danz. She is a professional recording artist with a CD in stores, and she loves to sing! These are all very important attributes when searching for that perfect voice coach. Singing is so personal, so you must feel very comfortable to truly grow, and I absolutely do with Teri. There's a little Mariah in me that needs to come out, so don't get it twisted yall.
Finally, I've officially started my Master's in Comedy at Second City Los Angeles. This is a dream come true and one of the main reasons Caroline and I moved down here, in addition to the magic that is West Hollywood of course. I'm enjoying the sunshine and the intense energy of the biz that electrifies the air.
Meanwhile, back on the ranch….
I have a shout out in the November issue of Curve Magazine in their top lesbian comics list, and in the December issue of Curve my rap skills will be represented in my first feature article.
Also a JFP favorite "Straight Bitches" was picked up by Myrina Films and is set to debut at Sundance 2009 in a lesbian short staring Jenny Shimizu. And please check out my newest interview on Julio's sole, whose mission is to inspire people to pursue their passions. It's a wonderful resource for enlightenment, courage, and beauty.
Thank you for coming through, now….
Stay true, be you, and do what ya gotta do!
Much Love,
Julie Fucking Potter
