R and I were all set to enjoy a game of football last night in the pub in Wishaw. Scotland v Holland. It wasn't  football that was on the screen, this was nerve jangling excitement. Scotland had so many near misses I thought I was going to have a heart attack! We were unlucky, yeah, yeah, I know you've heard it all before, but we missed at least three goals by a whisker. Final score Scotland 0 Holland 1.
Weird how football brings out the warrior in us Scots. we paint our faces and drape Saltires over our shoulders yet the vast majority of the population reel away from independence. A temporary time of patriotism seems to be enough.
We have a wonderful country with spectacular scenery that I never tire of. In fact I would like to be left on a hillside in Perthshire when I die and  to decay. A place were I found my freedom and perhaps where part of my heart will reside forever.
It is a little know fact that queen Elizabeth 1, who spoke several languages, the one she was very proud of was Scots.
We export so much across the world; wool, whiskey, petroleum, food products, nuclear fuel, the list is endless. Our biggest export however is people. We can found in the most remote of places in medicine, engineering, teaching etc.
I feel privileged to be Scottish and I assume everyone else feels the same about their homeland. I only need to hear a Scottish piece of music and there are tears forming in my eyes. Romantic notion, perhaps.
A little Scottish phrase to leave you with;
Whit's fur ye, will no go by ye.
(What's meant to be, will be.)
Have a good evening.
