Well the birdsong woke me from my slumber, though after this I might go back to sleep! I still feel tired considering I didn't get to sleep till 2am. One of those nights were copious cigarettes and a glass of red wine still couldn't make me drop off.
Usually reading makes me tired but last night sleep evaded me for a long time.
Teenagers seem to need vast amounts of sleep, lying in at weekends till the late afternoon and beyond. I remember once coming back home on days off and going to bed at 8pm an not wakening till 6pm the next night.
Sleep is a strange phenomenon; it is assumed it is for our bodies to rest and recharge, yet we spend a vast amount of that time dreaming Sometimes I wonder if I have rested.
My favourite dream subject is water. I have swam in puddles, rivers, lakes and swimming pools. Is this the sub-conscious cleansing me in some strange way, perhaps. I am also fortunate that I have lucid dreams. A few nights ago I said to myself in this colourful dreamworld, 'take notes you will forget it all in the morning.' I could see myself writing on the palm of my hand. When I woke in the morning I checked to see if it was all there. I really believed I am written on my hand the dream was so clear.
My dreams have full sensory ranges. I see clear colours, can smell, taste, hear and touch. In my dreams I try to alter the outcome, it doesn't always work but I attempt it. Also I can have episodic dreams where one night will follow on from the previous one, the story continuing and I will realize that this is happening. I dream a lot too about people who have passed on, perhaps this is memories being stirred, yet it is a way in which the person isn't forgotten.
I used to be able to sleep anywhere; buses, trains, deep in conversation, I would just nod off. Nowadays it s getting harder. Perhaps I don't need as much sleep as I used too! I have cut out the afternoon nap. That was put in place with years working in hotels when split shifts were the order of the day. Everyone slept in the afternoon in preparation for the evening shift. After all these years I still fade at 2pm in the afternoon.
The dawn is breaking, there is a soft light emerging from the clouds. teapot ready, outside to read my book, inhale the clean air and feel alive.
Have a good day and be true to yourself and others.
