There were three events to choose from up here in western Washington on Saturday night. But my choice in this instance was an easy one; the Slaughter County Roller Vixens bout in Bremerton. Partially because it was the closest one to me. Partially because Slaughter County is one of my favorite leagues. Partially because I hadn't seen Rainy City play yet this year. But mainly since there was an extremely rare appearance by the only team I openly root for; the Dockyard Derby Dames Wave of Mutilation. And...you know...wherever those girls go, I go

Terrormedixxx vs. Rainy City Roller Dolls

This was a good, hard, intense bout from start to finish. I'm not really sure exactly where or when it started, but by the end, you could tell that there was a good chunk of bad blood between the teams out there on the track. Which only added to the intensity and excitement as the game drew to it's conclusion.

Points were hard to come by in the first 6 jams as both defenses clamped down and made life miserable for the other teams jammers. Holly Hobbler opened up the scoring in the first jam of the night by collecting a 9-0 tally for Rainy City. But after that, the Terrormedixxx blockers shut the Rainy City jammers out in four of the next five jams. But life wasn't much better for the Terrormedixxx jammers. Although they were only shut-out in three of those first six jams, the most their jammers could score at any given time were Ree Arrangher's 2 points in the third jam and Roller Rage Rosie's 3 points in the second jam. But in the sixth jam of the first half, rookie Sonic Wave came through big for the team in blue by posting a 6-0 decision over Toot A. Lou that brought the TMX back to within 2 points.

That was about it for the defensive portion of the game.

In the seventh jam of the first half, Rainy City's Lucyville Slug-Her earned lead jammer and skated to the bat rack with an 8-0 decision over B-Murda. But the Terrormedixxx took the next two scoring runs as both Rollin Dirty and On'Da Sligh each earned lead jammer on their way to a 4-1 decision (Dirty) and an 8-4 run (Sligh) that once again brought the hometeam back to within three points.
But the game may very well have been decided in the 10th jam of the first half. With the Terrormedixxx in a lot of penalty trouble (including jammer Sonic Wave who got to spend some time in the sin bin during this jam), D.V.S. Dicer took the jammers cap for Rainy City and posted a crazy 23-7 lead jammer run that put her squad up by 19 points. However, superstar in the making, On'Da Sligh answered right back for the Terrormedixxx with a 9-0 lead jammer decision over Holly Hobbler that cut that lead back down to 10 points. The next two jams wound up in a collective 6-6 draw between the two teams. Then in the 14th jam of the first half, the Terrormedixxx pulled back to within four points after Rollin Dirty's 6-0 decision over Lucyville Slug-Her.
Unfortunately for the Terrormedixxx, penalties once again caught up with them during the final three jams of the first half...especially for their jammers. Rollin Dirty was sent to the box during the later stages of her previous jam, and had to sit there and watch Holly Hobbler earn lead jammer and a 5-0 grand slam scoring run. In the 16th jam, On'Da Sligh was able to pick up 7 points for the Terrormedixxx, but also saw herself taking a seat in the sin bin later on and still fell a point short as Toot A. Lou earned 8 points of her own. And in the final jam of the first half, Sligh had to watch Lucyville Slug-Her earn lead jammer and pick up three more points from the penalty box. After 30 minutes of play, Rainy City held a 71-58 lead.
Rainy City continued with their attack on the scoreboard early on in the second half as Holly Hobbler and Toot A. Lou took the first two jams over On'Da Sligh by a total of 18-8. Then after a pair of scoreless runs, Crack Attack slapped the star on her melon and claimed an 8-5 decision over Roller Rage Rosie.

Then the Terrormedixxx made their move.

In the 6th jam of the second half, Sonic Wave posted a 12-0 romp over a penalized Crack Attack to chop the Rainy City lead in half. Although Wave did take a penalty in the later stages of that jam and paid for it dearly as Toot A. Lou snagged a lead jammer grand slam in the 7th jam. Then in the 8th jam, Sonic Wave made up for a little bit of that as she slapped a 5-4 decision on the board over Holly Hobbler.

In the 9th jam, the crowd was suddenly woken up as On'Da Sligh stepped up to the jammers line and raced home with a 14-0 scoring run that pulled the Terrormedixxx back to within 2 points in the blink of an eye. Then in the 10th jam of the second half, the Terrormedixxx took their first lead of the night as B-Murda skated home with a 4-0 decision over Lucyville Slug-Her that gave TMX the lead at 108-106. The 11th jam saw Ree Arrangher extend that lead out a little more as she collected a 4-0 debt over D.V.S. Dicer.

However, Rainy City was having none of that. Almost as quickly as they had lost it, the girls from Centralia found that lead again as Toot A. Lou earned lead jammer and an 8-0 decision in the 12th jam that put Rainy City back up by 2 points. Then after a 2-1 decision by Holly Hobbler that extended the Rainy lead out a little more, one of the wildest jams of the year occured. In it, On'Da Sligh earned lead jammer in the early stages and made one scoring pass through the pack before being banished to the penalty box. And as she sat there, she watched D.V.S. Dicer post 10 points of her own on the board for Rainy City. And at the end of the jam, an already intense bout reached a boiling point for two skaters as the Terrormedixxx Lolli Von PerkiPops and Rainy City's Lil Miss Mak'her Mark were ejected from the game for fighting in turn one.

So after a quick break to sort things out and calm things down, Toot A. Lou took to the jammers line with On'Da Sligh still sitting in the penalty box and earned lead jammer and posted a grand slam 5-0 run on the board to make the score 131-117 in favor of Rainy City. Then after a 4-4 draw in the 16th jam of the second half, On'Da Sligh went to work. In the 17th jam, she earned lead jammer and claimed a 3-0 decision over D.V.S. Dicer. Then she went right back out there in the 18th jam and posted a 9-4 tally on the board over Toot A. Lou that brought the Terrormedixxx back to within 6 points with time quickly running out on the clock.

In the final jam of the game, B-Murda was able to earn lead jammer over Holly Hobbler. The Terrormedixxx jammer made it to the rear of the pack and tried to start her scoring run, but could only collect one point before being smoked by Rainy City blocker Crack Attack. As she was on the ground, B-Murda called the jam off, which ended the game since there was no time left in it. The final score of this barn burner was Rainy City 139, Terrormedixxx 134.

Three Stars

3. Miss Mel Mangles.
She had a solid night within the pack, leading the game in blocking stats with 11 blocked jammers and three hole-opening assists for her jammers. She also took the jammers cap once and skated home with 2 points after earning lead jammer.

2. Toot A. Lou. She led Rainy City jamming-wise by posting 51 points in 11 jams, 6 of which she earned lead jammer. And although she was shut-out in her first two jams of the night, she went on to post points on the scoreboard in 8 of her final 9 runs at jammer. Nice and consistant.

1. On'Da Sligh. She led not only the Terrormedixxx, but the entire game in points scored with 62 in 12 jams with the star on her helmet. Add to that all of her hopping, skipping, jumping, twisting and turning and she is not only quickly becoming one of the best players in the northwest, but one of the most exciting to watch, too.

Key Jam of the Game

There were more than a few that you could point to in this one, but I would honestly have to say it was the 10th jam of the first half when D.V.S. Dicer went out there and put that 23-7 decision on the board. It was by far and away the highest point total in the game, and arguably won the game in the early stages for Rainy City.

Bad Girls of the Game

Lot's to talk about here. I guess if there was one "winner", it would have to be the Terrormedixxx Lolli Von PerkiPops. She tied for the lead in penalty minutes (4) and was also ejected for that fight. Her teammates On'Da Sligh and Rollin Dirty also served 4 minutes in the box apiece. And on the Rainy City side of things, Tinkerbell Ringer was justifiably ejected in the second half for a hit that was not only well after the whistle, but well out of bounds that sent one of the Terrormedixxx into the wall of the building. And, of course, Lil Miss Mak'her Mark was also ejected from the festivities for her part in that little scrap in turn one with PerkiPops.

Death Rattle Rollers vs. Wave of Mutilation

Going into it, I honestly thought this game would be a lot closer on the scoreboard than what it was. On one hand, you had a Wave team that was skating with a few key players on the sidelines or not there at all and doesn't practice all that often with each other (at least compared to other leagues). Meanwhile, the Death Rattle Rollers were also missing a few key players and had a few new names on their roster, too. But they are usually a pretty solid team and work well together. But...alas...it didn't turn out that way.

Over the first 10 jams of the game, the Death Rattle Rollers could score in only three of those runs. Bashley Blaze was able to pick up 7 points as lead jammer in the 2nd run of the game and 4 more points in the 5th, while Speedy Gun Haul Ass earned 3 points in the 6th jam. Meanwhile, the Wave jammers were earning lead jammer and scoring at will. Pain Goodall and Dakota D. Stroya each had 10 point runs during that stretch (in the 4th and 9th jams respectively) and consistently posted points in the first 9 jams of the game (their first scoreless jam was a 0-0 draw in the 10th). After those first ten jams, the Wave of Mutilation held a commanding 51-14 lead.

Although the DRR blockers were able to slow down the Wave's scoring attack a little bit over the final 15 minutes or so of the first half. However, they were still having a difficult time in getting their own jammers out of the pack. Bashley Blaze was able to earn a 4-2 decision in the 14th jam over Dakota D. Stroya. But other than that, the Dockyard team had an answer for every point the Death Rattle Rollers posted and then some. In 12 of the 19 jams run in the first half, the Dockyard jammers were able to earn lead status (as compared to DRR's 3 times). And the only two times the Wave were held scoreless in a jam, the Death Rattle Rollers also failed to post any points on the board. The halftime score stood at Wave of Mutilation 76, Death Rattle Rollers 27.

While the Wave kept their scoring pace around the same in the second half, the Death Rattle Rollers were able to post quite a few more points for themselves over the final 30 minutes. The Dockyard's Goldie Locksdown did post a 14-0 tally in the 3rd jam. But DRR finally put a huge jam up on the board of their own in the 5th jam of the second half when Speedy Gun Haul Ass raced away with a 16-0 decision over Sister Slaughter. But the Dockyard Wave just kept rolling and rolling and rolling. In the second half, each of the 12 players that were suited up took a turn at jammer. And all but three of them were able to post points on the scoreboard while only two of those didn't earn lead jammer. Meanwhile, Speedy Gun Haul Ass jammed much more effectively in the second half, scoring points in 6 of her 8 runs, while newbie Evil Jen Evil also posted a couple nice runs on the board herself; a 4-4 lead jammer draw with Pain Goodall in the 10th jam and an 8-4 decision over Rita Beata Maid in the 14th. Speedy Gun Haul Ass also tacked-on a nice 15-0 throttling in the 17th jam of the night. But it still wasn't enough as the Wave of Mutilation came back over the Narrows Bridge sporting a 145-87 win.

Three Stars

3. Anna Barbara. It was a REALLY rough night for the DRR blockers. But Anna put up the best blocking stats on her team. She was able to get 7 blocked jammers on my sheet along with 2 big hits.

2. Pain Goodall. For the Wave, she was second in most everything. She scored the second most points in the game---23 points in 4 runs at jammer---and also led the entire game in points per jam. She also collected the second most blocking marks for the Dockyard; 5 blocked jammers, 3 hole-opening assists and a pair of big hits. And she never went to the penalty box once.

1. T'erin Traxx. Overall, the most dominating force on the track in this game. She jammed three times, earned lead jammer all three times and was able to post 11 points on the scoreboard. But, you know, that's not what she's really known for. Her 16 blocked jammers were more than twice that of her nearest competitor, and she also dished-out 5 big hits in the game.

Key Jam of the Game

In a game with a score like this, it's hard to pick a key jam. So looking in my notebook here, I'll go ahead and run with the 4th jam of the first half when Pain Goodall collected that 10-0 decision over Gun'Her Gombos. That was the jam that really seperated the two teams for good. And the Wave never looked back.

Bad Girls of the Game

This game had a relatively low penalty count. But according to what I have, Knock'er SocksOff and Anna Barbara each served three minutes in the box for the Death Rattle Rollers. Again, most games that doesn't even put you in the conversation for "Bad Girl". Also, Ruby Rotten was ejected from the second half for some reason.

First of all, a big thank you to my spotter, Judy Asa Punk. She is definitely coming along nicely in her spotting skills (lol). Perhaps not quite in that "master" range like Alan, Russ, Molly Python, Polly Pickpocket, Bulldog or Izzy Pop. But she's getting there. Especially in the second half of both bouts when she was commenting on everything out there. She is definitely one of my trusty helpers now!

I definitely have to thank Rainy City announcer Thurston Gore on two counts. The first of which is that he saved my bacon (not to mention a ton of headaches) by providing me with a roster for all the teams playing on Saturday night. They didn't have bout programs. With the Dockyard, this wouldn't have been an issue. And I know a good chunk of the Slaughter County and Rainy City skaters. Still, there were quite a few new ones on the other three teams out there. And it would have been a miserable experience trying to figure them all out on the run. He also introduced the Wave to the crowd. On the way up there, Judy informed me that not only was Phil Dirt not going to be there (he was reffing in Rat City), but James T. Jerk wasn't gonna be there either. I didn't say anything at the time, but a wave of fear washed over me with the possibility that they were gonna ask me to introduce them again like I did in San Diego last year (lol). Of course if they had asked, I probably would have broken down and done it again. But thankfully, that wasn't the case. As I say often, there is a reason I write and don't talk into microphones (haha).

And I'll also toss some thanks out to Slaughter County announcer Stab-Her Lee. Her last bout announcing is gonna be on June 27th. I won't be there for that one (I'll either be in Eugene or northern California...still weighing the options there). Although I honestly don't listen to the annoucers all that much (I'm kind of in my own little world concentrating on doing my thing), she has definitely become one of the best annoucers out there in my opinion. She always mentions my page at least once (and did it again on Saturday night), apparently with the idea that she'll somehow become famous by getting a mention on here (lol). Although I'm thinking she will get a lot more run out of being the runner-up in that Bob Rivers Unexpected Idol contest (lol). Still, she's a joy to listen to and I'll miss picking up on her those times I'm able to.

And in a completely different category, absolutely NO thanks go out to Franky Bones (hahahaha). I'm thinking that she killed her chances of getting me to sing that karaoke song if she goes the entire game without serving a minute in the sin bin. Leaving me high and dry like that. Why I oughtta.......

------------------------------------------------------------

And a few more scores from around the derby nation...

First off in Seattle, the Derby Liberation Front won their third Rat City championship by defeating the Sockit Wenches 167-135. And in the runner-up game, the Throttle Rockets beat Grave Danger to the tune of 162-152. I thank Bulldog and Pia Mess for texting me those scores.

Also courtesy of Bulldog, the Jet City Rollergirls skated back to Snohomish County with a 147-74 victory over the Bellingham Roller Betties up in Bellingham.

Of course Phil Arnold of Roller Derby Is Sport sent that text message to me Saturday night with TXRG's 451-8 win over the Oklahoma Victory Dolls. He also sent me on Sunday evening saying that the Dallas Derby Devils went into Tulsa and claimed a 139-48 win over Green Country. Thanks to Phil for letting me know about both of those!

If you have any scores of your own from this weekend, feel free to post them in the comments section below!

------------------------------------------------------------

As for next weekend...mmmmm...it's still up in the air for me. There is the Rat City/Detroit game in Kent. But there is also a little mini-tournement being hosted by Atomic City over in Kennewick that will also feature a camping trip afterwards for selected people (which I've been invited to). Big blogging numbers or having a blast with four of my favorite leagues (Atomic, Slaughter, Lava and Rainy) in the desert? Basically, I'm currently waiting to see what someone else wants to do

Miss Mel Mangles

As always, a great blog that was well worth the wait! I could not have picked a better group to spend my birthday with! Of course I love my Rainy City ladies, and have to thank them all for giving me what I wanted the most for my birthday: a win over TMX! It couldn't have happened without the heart and dedication of all the ladies there, or the encouragement and leadership of Mel Mangles! I feel truley blessed to be with such a great team.
Then add one of my favorite leagues, Slaughter County. They were the first league I ever met (other than my own). I feel so welcomed and loved in their presence, even after such an intense and, at times heated, game! I think Mel said it best, sisterly love and sibling rivalry.
Thanks again Elwood for all your time and dedication to this 'niche sport' that everyone loves!

Yay a star! Thanks for the write-up Elwood. Slaughter County is always nice. I hope the Wave can play their all-stars soon. Congrats to DRR's new girls. They were awesome! I couldn't believe that was Jenevel's first bout. Also thought Speedy's 2nd half jamming was star-worthy. Thanks again! Pain

Thanks for coming out once again, the TMX bout was on the edge of the seat and I, score keeping couldn't help but to get to into the action. I just wanted to throw this out there, it was a bullshit call to eject Ruby, she laughed when the ref called her on a major, but someone find a moment when this girl isn't laughing or jus having fun.  It wouldn't have changed anything, but as someone who coached Death Rattle Rollers I have a warm spot in my heart for them, and I saw the call and it was bullshit. Thanks again.

Congrats to all of my lovely ladies from Rainy City!  Sounds like one hell of a hell of a game!  Nothin' like a little redemption after our last meeting with TMX, eh? Here's to hoping some sort of video footage exists, and if so you'll keep your ol' pal Mercyful informed on when the viewing party is!

Mad props to Toots, you are more ferocious and tenacious every time I see you skate.  And of course to Miss Mel Mangles, whose blocking is always a force to be reckoned with.  Can't wait to get a look at D.V.S. Diver, sounds like you had a hell of a night too!

You ladies have an impressive season so far, much love and respect.

xoxo-Mercyful

p.s. I am starting to sense the inevitabilty of a Rainy City-AoA face off in our future.

Sad to sit on the sidelines.. but at the same time, both games were amazing to watch!

Go Dockyard All-Stars, can't wait to see/play more!
And these teams are some of our favorite girls on and off the track - double the fun for bout night.

On 'Da - um, amazing - that girl kept that crowd going crazy all night, what a player!!

I, too, am an On Da'Sligh fan.  I can't wait to see her skate a lot more!

For this weekend, I have to try and convince you to come to the Kent bout.  It's a chance to see three great leagues, Detroit, Rat City, and Jet City.  Plus, it's All-Stars, with some major ranking implications across the nation.  This is a Big Thing™ and what sports writer wouldn't want to write for that?

In defense of myself, in response to your comment regarding my ejection....  Obviously it was after the whistle - but this was entirely a case of me not realizing the whistle had blown until after the hit - I was not out hunting to hit a girl after the whistle as it sounds by saying my hit was well after the whistle and well out of bounds.  I haven't seen the video yet but I believe that description is completely exaggerated.  I don't want anyone to see me as that type of player - I didn't even have a MINOR penalty before this happened.

Number one: I NEVER said you were head-hunting. Point out exactly where it is that I said that. Please. Seriously. Point out where I said that.

Number two. I am not a mind-reader. If I was, I'd be making a helluva lot more money doing that than what I currently do. And neither are the refs. Regardless if you heard the whistle or not (and I'll take your word for that), it looked bad. Really bad.

Number three. What I wrote there were the facts as I saw them. The whistle blew, she was out of bounds on her way to the bench (from my perspective), you hit her, she crashed into the wall. The only thing that is remotely in question could be whether she was on or off the track. Everything else is EXACTLY what happened. When (if) you do see the video, you will see it for yourself.

Number four. Exaggerating what happened would go along the lines of this; "Tinkerbell Ringer, with the glazed-eye look of a madwoman gone over the edge, slammed On'Da Sligh so hard into the wall after the whistle that Sligh had to be taken out on a stretcher as Bellringer celebrated her feat". Of course, none of that happened. However, that is the TRUE definition of exaggerating. What I said was actually a pretty black-and-white description. And anyone and everyone who saw it probably wouldn't say that it was too far off the mark.

My comment was completely intended to defend myself - it wasn't an attack on you so I'm sorry if it was perceived that way.  My perception of the comment about my ejection was that it looked as if I intentionally made the late hit and I did not - Of course you don't know me, I don't expect you to be a mind reader or to know how I play derby normally.  I appreciate that you write the facts as you see them, I just felt that in this instance I would add the facts from my end.
