I am a songwriter. This statement is an epiphany.

The business of music, yes the business, not the creative, wants me to be something. To go in one direction, to pick one genre. Maybe that’s even what you want from me.

I struggle with this daily. What if I can’t? Meaning… I can’t won't.

Today, I wrote a love song. Yesterday, I wrote a rock tune. Who knows what I will write tomorrow. One thing I do know, it will be something real. And when it comes down to it, that’s what we’re all looking for… Something real.

I am a songwriter.

I write what I feel.

I perform in the way that best serves the song.

I hope that’s okay with you.

somebody sometime once said that using the word "Can't" means either you don't want to or you just don't know how...i, personally, have refused to choose any one "direction" in my life, other than the choice of who i ~am~...the 'what you do' part comes out of that, don't you think? i guess what i'm trying to convey is that it doesn't really matter what you choose to do as long as you choose to BE. i have faith it will all come together for you in ways even your creative mind cannot imagine ;)

The business side of music is screwed up, IMO. It's not about the music anymore; it's about profit margins and merchandising. Quite honestly, the music biz as it is now can shove it.

Everything you do is okay with me Josh, you are one of the most real people I know :) 

I think doing many different genres is a great thing, you have variety, the same can be repetitious but to be able to do many genres well is even more challenging.  Follow your heart to your music and do what YOU feel is right and it will guide you to the place you should be.  Always remain true to you.
