That is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen, that and those vertical gardens. I've been fascinated by the idea of unions between architecture and landscaping ever since I was a little kid and read this children's synopsis of the great operas. The first one, about Siegfried, had him fleeing from foes and he fetched up in the house of Hunding and Sieglinde and there was a tree growing IN the house right THROUGH the ceiling of the living room.

It just so happens that in my front yard there is a more or less even row of golden raintrees growing alongside the fence. I love golden raintrees; since I live in the south, it's one of the few semi-indigenous (actually, I think they're from Japan but they've established themselves thoroughly down here) deciduous trees that actually turn pretty colors in the fall, rather than the leaves simply turning a drab shade of brown and falling off. My husband hates them; he thinks they're nothing more than an especially uppity weed. I mentioned pleaching the raintrees and he sort of left that up to me.

Has anyone pleached this kind of tree? They're quite limber and plaint when they are saplings, and saplings is more or less what we've got.

Actually, it's not the front yard, it's the back, but I found out my error when it was too late to edit.
