Current mood: artistic
Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who could not hear the music. ~ Angela Monet
At the core of the Universe is a frequency that connects all of us with its dual steady base but yet complex musicality. A current that beats within every heart and which lives within every breath. We can find it in the steady rhythm of a melody, in the nuances of an exquisite piece of art, in the resonating raw truth of good literature or poetry, and in the graceful sensual moves of the great dancers.
This harmonic concept of the universe was expressed in ancient philosophy as "The Music of the Spheres" and beautifully resonated in Dante's "Divine Comedy." In the Indian language Sanskrit this vibrating current is called "Shabd" or "Shabda" which means sound or word. In the Christian religion it is referred to as "the Word," "Logos" or "Holy Spirit." It is known as "Kalma" and "Kalam-i-Qadim" in the Qur'an; as "Naad", "Akash Bani", and "Sruti" in the Vedas; as the Tao in Taoism, "Sraosha" in Mazdaism; and Naam", "Akhand Kirtan"; and "Sacha ('True') Shabd" by Guru Granth Sahib.
In Hinduism, spiritual enlightenment leads to the merging with the Shabd (the "Word made flesh"). In Christianity this merger takes place in the revelation as the merger between Christ and his bride the church. In many spiritual practices this vibration of eternal unity or merging with divinity or spirit is practiced through meditation and chanting. On a smaller scale it is at the root of the merging and unfolding that happens in spiritual or tantric sex.
This underlying current that connects all of us in profound ways beyond the subconscious is the language of the Collective Consciousness, and lies at the heart of every great artist who has learned to tune into this stream of consciousness. Some of us find ourselves more connected to this universal current than others. It is underlying all great passion and we can learn to tune into it with our spiritual ears.
Recent developments in string theory theorize that at the most base level of all matter are vibrating strings of energy. According to this theory, all strings of matter are the same. What differentiates matter is the resonant pattern these strings vibrate to. The question is, do we choose to march to a different drum or tune into this incredibly complex symphony?
