Current mood:  artistic

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who could not hear the music. ~ Angela Monet

At the core of the Universe is a frequency that connects all of us with its dual steady base but yet complex musicality.  A current that beats within every heart and which lives within every breath.  We can find it in the steady rhythm of a melody, in the nuances of an exquisite piece of art, in the resonating raw truth of good literature or poetry, and in the graceful sensual moves of the great dancers.

This harmonic concept of the universe was expressed in ancient philosophy as "The Music of the Spheres" and beautifully resonated in Dante's "Divine Comedy."  In the Indian language Sanskrit this vibrating current is called "Shabd" or "Shabda" which means sound or word. In the Christian religion it is referred to as "the Word," "Logos" or "Holy Spirit."  It is known as "Kalma" and "Kalam-i-Qadim" in the Qur'an; as "Naad", "Akash Bani", and "Sruti" in the Vedas; as the Tao in Taoism, "Sraosha" in Mazdaism;  and Naam", "Akhand Kirtan"; and "Sacha ('True') Shabd" by Guru Granth Sahib.

In Hinduism, spiritual enlightenment leads to the merging with the Shabd (the "Word made flesh"). In Christianity this merger takes place in the revelation as the merger between Christ and his bride the church.  In many spiritual practices this vibration of eternal unity or merging with divinity or spirit is practiced through meditation and chanting.  On a smaller scale it is at the root of the merging and unfolding that happens in spiritual or tantric sex.

This underlying current that connects all of us in profound ways beyond the subconscious is the language of the Collective Consciousness, and lies at the heart of every great artist who has learned to tune into this stream of consciousness.  Some of us find ourselves more connected to this universal current than others. It is underlying all great passion and we can learn to tune into it with our spiritual ears.

Recent developments in string theory theorize that at the most base level of all matter are vibrating strings of energy.  According to this theory, all strings of matter are the same. What differentiates matter is the resonant pattern these strings vibrate to.  The question is, do we choose to march to a different drum or tune into this incredibly complex symphony?

I  for  one Dance to  the  very complex Symphony. I  chose  to  dance to all  of  the  chords. Some  are never even heard and  the  very best  of Symphonys  have yet to  be written. We as  humans all carry with  us all  of  the  instruments that are needed  for this  symphony of the time and  space continueum. This is the unwritten and never ending legacy of humanity is  the music of  the past lives and  the continued music for the new mortals to  dance  too. This  is  what   I  would  call  the  Symphony  of  the Human souls. Always  beaing written  never ending and  always changing.

Just  My  thought

You  provoked  it

Love  and  peace

So glad I could provoke you today :)  I believe too that the best is yet to come, and this "symphony of souls" is continually evolving into more beauty, higher truth, and expanding in love.  Thanks for your input Michael!

Have you read or watched "The Elegant Universe"?  It's an entertaining and educational layman's coverage of string theory.  Fascinating stuff.

I think it's interesting how spiritually sensitive people will talking about sensing or feeling "vibes."  We know through science that all matter and energy is moving, vibrating.  String theory really picks up on this concept.  Sounds can also be used to trigger or guide emotional moods or brainwave patterns and states.  Sound and vibration ... it really is a mysterious, amazing, powerful thing when you think about it.

It appears to be at the core of our being; it appears to be at the foundation of the universe.

Ohm.

Peace out,
David

Yes, I have watched "The Elegant Universe."  In fact, I own a copy and highly recommend it to anyone who has not seen it yet.  I think that our souls communicate to us through our sensing, feeling and "vibes."  I have also noticed how music can change my mood pretty quickly and completely.

Ohm. (By the way what a powerful experience connecting with other souls through just this one simple syllable. It truly is amazing.)

if u can't hear the music
then u're not likely to be inspired to dance

pythagoras had it right
the sheres do sing to us
but are we listening is the question?

So true Enrique!  The universe is playing our song and the music is all around us, but we must be listening and we must be tuned in.

A couple of days ago we were listening to music and Rocket played this one song (I call it trance music) It was very rythemic and our trees filled up with birds , there were hundreds. Something in that music attracted them. It was pretty farout.

Wow Robin that really is amazing.  Even the animals respond to music. I have seen that there is a considerable amount of research going on in studying how animals respond to electromagnetic frequencies.

Your writting here brings up a theory to my mind stated by many philosophers, and that being... that all that we perceive as real is really all an illusion. Because in actuality what we are seeing is the manifestation of different levels , tones, and scales of vibration that makeup this reality or world.

So this is a stage where we play in, not real in its construction, but real in it manifestation.

Yes, this is a fascinating philosophy.  The more I learn about the mind and the science of matter the more I understand how this may be possible. Although it is hard to wrap my mind around the concept when all matter seems so real both in sight and touch.  However, string theory also opens the possibility of multiple dimensions that exist simultaneously which allows for some fascinating possibilities to say the least.

I like the idea of the underlying current which we too often ignore at our peril.  Underneath our cureent emotion is a deeper emotion, which, if we are not careful, can sweep us away.

Yes, very true. Emotions can be a powerful drive and learning to control them is important.  There is of course a time and place to reveal appropriate emotion.  Additionally, being moved by a spiritual undercurrent motivated by higher consciousness is much different then being moved by undercurrents motivated by the ego.

I love the picture of the world pulsating in our hands Denise.

I found years ago, when I did a lot of Spiritual Retreat Workshops, that many people simply 'couldn't' dance.  We did lots of work with the 'inner child stuff' and it seemed that many people had just lost touch with the 'playful, free, inner child'.   As we know, most children love to dance, uninhibitedly and it is something we often lose touch with as we grow up with social conditioning.

These workshops proved to be very liberating for many, connecting them once again with their inner dance.  Beautiful to be a part of and to observe the awakening in others.  Thank you for this lovely Post.

Thank you Di J  I was excited to find this image too. It expresses the theme of the blog perfectly.  I do find it rather sad that so many people lose the ability to connect with music and express that connection through dance.  These spiritual retreat workshops you speak of sound wonderful, as I believe this inner dance to be very important in our spiritual awareness, growth, and connection to the whole.

Music, and especially dance, as self-expression to the inner "attunement" to that music has been an important part of my self-expression since childhood. It's my belief that if we could all attune ourselves to the timeless harmony of "the music of the spheres", we would all be living in a harmonious dance of life, cooperating instead of competing. The knowledge of "we are all One" would be lived every day in the present moment. In this attuned dance of life, there would be room for every single "vibration", no matter how strange, unique or differently-expressed.

I think more and more people are tuning in, as you say, with ther spiritual ears, and it won't be too much longer before the dissonance has been re-converted into the overall harmony. Love this, Denise.

Beautifully expressed Kristine!  Excellent point, what a wonderful world it would be if we were all living this harmonious dance of life and cooperating instead of competing.  We just need to keep on dancing to the tune of the spirit and encouraging others to join us.  Maybe one day we all live and dance as unique but beautifully tuned instruments of divine harmony.

Kristine hit it right on the nose.
The very basic part of the universe is the vibrating "strings" of the String Theory. These "strings" are a part of everything in the sub-sub atomic levels. Music, along with many other frequencies in our universe, helps us get "in tune" with the same frequencies as the strings. When the normal resonant pattern these strings vibrate to are not tuned properly in our souls then we are not in tune with our lives.
Sheeesh, hope that made sense...

Yes, Kristine did hit in on the nose!  She is good at that. You nailed it here too.  .  . If we are not in tune with our souls then we are not in tune with our lives.  It does make sense that to find true harmony with our souls and with our lives we need to get "in tune" with the frequencies of the strings and learn to listen with our inner ear. Sheeesh (giggles)

Ok, my pea brain is having a tough time getting my mind around this concept of a P-brane.  But as always the deeper we dig the more complex things become and there always seems to be a deeper level to explore. Seeing ourselves as notes helps give an analogy of how we can all be part of the same symphony but yet have our own unique contribuiton. Welcome to my blog shifting pair o' dimes, and thank your for the great link.

Rob,  I think music is very essential to our survival. I believe it is one way we give our knowlege a voice, saitisfying the soul, thus making us feel complete. The Lennon song "Imagine" comes to mind.

Good point when you look at the song "Imagine" which promotes peace.  Music that promotes peace could very well be essential for survival.

Hi Rob, yes our connection to music, dance, art, literature, poetry, etc. really has no evident connection to our survival.  We certainly could survive as a species without these avenues of expression, but would we want to?  And since you bring up our connection to the animals, I find Robin’s story about the birds fascinating too.  Perhaps the birds are reacting to the vibrations and frequencies within the music. Birds communicate through various pitches and vibrations too, but often we find their melodies appealing, comforting and peaceful.  What is the purpose of this common innate concept of beauty whether it is presented through site or sound, and where does it come from?  It certainly is fascinating.

The question is, do we choose to march to a different drum or tune into this incredibly complex symphony?

********Actually we can do both ! When we tune into this incredible complex symphony we are uniting oourselves with the collective consciousness, when we march to the beat of a different drum, we are expressing the individuality which God gave us to express, that is the purpose of his creating us ! So that he could know himself in the imillions of combinations of personalities through us ! So both are cool things to do.

Aside from this....... the purpose of art, music, poetry, centuries ago was to impart esoteric or Initiatic or spiritual teachings.

There is a Native American on myspace that continues to use his artwork as a medium for spiitual teachings, check out:     http://www.myspace.com/dream_walker

Beautiful blog, love the picture of a breathing mother earth !  thanks evelyn

Wow, Evelyn this is beautifully put, and so succinct and wise!  We can be a part of this complex symphony and still feel free to express our unique expression of it. The idea that God could know himself better by creating us is a fascinating bit of wisdom that resonates as truth for me.  I know I will be chewing on this concept for a bit as I prepare to digest it. Thanks once again for helping me to see a concept from a deeper level.

Hi Janae, thank you for the kind words.  It is a wonderful feeling to know that we are sharing our journeys here together in this little corner of cyberspace. I love the image of the undulating waves of the ocean. But then, of course, I love any metaphor using the ocean.  So true that once we learn to truly tune into ourselves then we can learn to tune into the magic of the cosmic current. I am so in agreement with you that the current's essence must be love for no other experience describes it better.  what a simple but wonderfully powerful insight.

Blessed Love back to you!
